Subject: Two questions

I am checking out and preparing the CSS for this version and am working through some issues:

1) The height of a posting seems to have grown...when it only has a couple of lines and a short signature it seems too big. What CSS option or other approach can I take to minimise the blank space in postings?

2) I am having to work around some CSS formatting issues where certain page items are using the CSS item I expected. I cannot seem to work around "Post Options" - is there a formatting issues with this page item?

FYI, the registration server seemed to work fine for me, ads have disappeared and PMs are now enabled. This version looks cleaner !

1. Spent hours on this so if you find a solution would be happy to hear it.

2. Not quite sure what you mean by 'Post Options'

1) OK so the oversize posting is a known issue...anyone out there got an idea?
2) On the right of a posting you get "Post Options", "Quote" and "Reply". The "Post Options" item does not format to the right colour (the menu works ok).

It will if you select between the built in skins you will see that you can change the colours of it.

The drop down is done by dropDownMenu and the text for Topic Options is done by msgEvenTableTop and msgOddTableTop

Yes the colour does change but I don't think the text "Topic Options" is connected to the right CSS attribute.

To help:

Quote and Reply are obviously controlled by a different attribute to Topic Options because they are a different colour in my setup. I want all three to be the same.

2) msgEvenTableTop and msgOddTableTop do not have a colour attribute, only a background colour attribute. There is an a:link attribute (etc) but thats not doing it.

I'm certain there is an issue here. I'll PM the URL to you.

As was said before hours, if not days were spent on this, and decided in the end that it was perfectly adequate how it was and couldn't justify spending anymore time on it.

for Nick's first question,
there is
<tr class="<% = strPostTableRowClass %>" style="height:200px;min-height:200px;">
in forum_posts.asp at line number 1113
remove "height" properties or "style" portion

Thanks for looking at this...

I would say...very close but not quite. When I tried it or any variation of it you are right that a over-long post shrinks to the minimum height possible. However, the top row (contains topic and date posted) will grow if that top row height plus the post height are a less than the column height to the left (contains author etc).

I am going to guess that you are right that it need removing but that the top row needs a control somehow.

The first is used for backward compatibility with EIE 5 and 6, the secound is for all other browsers.

If you remove it and only post one line and have a signature than the signature starts halfway through.

If you shorten it you get the same issue with posts where the author has avatars, location, posts, etc. in the right hand side.

The size it is set at is the best compromise for all situations.

Trust me days was spent on this, and you won't find some quite all-round answer, the solution at present is the best all round comprise for all current browsers.

Hmm, I might be confusing this issue with one I had but I removed the sidebar altogether and put all the information I wanted from it in the post mast - of course, this fit with the way my site has looked this way for many years, 8.5 was the only version I ever ran with a sidebar in the posts.

Smack me if I'm totally on the wrong track.
