Hi,
I run webwizforums 8.04 on our servers.
The problem is that someone is using a product called  http://www.esalesbiz.com/extra/ - www.esalesbiz.com/extra/  to download our entire forum.
When they run this our computer cpu goes to 100% and everything grinds to a halt.

How can we limit the number of posts that can be viewed?
Or is there a better way resolve this?
Is it possible to only allow registered users into the forum? Would that resolve it?

I would appreciate a fast answer as they might try it again at any time.

Many Thanks
T.

AFAIK, you can't stop them. The server will serve up the page. I'm not sure, but there may be a way to block or secure file access based on IP, but it's my guess that's at the server level so you'd need server access.
I HATE harvesting like that! IMO, there is no legit reason for such software.
If anyone wants a backup of their own site, they can FTP to it and make a local copy of all files and folders. DUH, you do not need software like that to do a legitimate task.
If it's your site you have access to everything anyway, so why that software? Only for less than up-front and decent purposes, IMO.

I also suspect that they can't do more than "take" the files, which is no biggy anyway, but many also harvest images, etc.

You can use the built in permission system to deny access to forum to unregistered users by unchecking the Access option in the permisisons system for Guest accounts.

If you have access to the server you can block IP or IP ranges in IIS if you know what IP address or range they are using.

You might want to also checkout Max Mind Geo IP for blocking access based on IP address
