I had a problem few days ago with two forum members and I had to ban their IP address, delete their accounts, posts etc.. Problem solved.

But now I have another problem. Five other members of my forum (I know who they are) have the same IP address and now they are also banned.

Can I ban one IP address but still allow specific registered forum members to visit and use my forum?Geek

I'm afraid not.

This is why we recommend that you enable email activation, and if you have a member causing problems, suspend their account, don't delete it.

If several people use the same IP and are from the same place (organisation, shared house, etc.) you might have to manage this situation another way:

1) You can put the onus back on the group to sort its own problems out - either fix it between you or your ip will have to be blocked

2) Remember that people can register under a different name and/or IP and/or email address if they really want to cause a problem - you do not have control at all - discussion and agreement might be better.

I have enabled email activation, tried to solve my problem with conversation but they just didn't stop and I have banned their IP address.

Maybe I could first suspend their accounts but their posts were so vulgar and provocative... I was really angry I have to admit...Embarrassed

I have tried that but group's system administrator said that they just can't find who is "the source" of my problems. There are about 100 potential "sources". Interesting...Confused

Yes, you are right, I don't have control. But after I have banned IP address everything is ok.

I'll wait day or two and then I'll remove ban. Hope that there won't be any more problems.Disapprove

Thanks for advices!Wink

You could also enable Post Aprroval for a while using the permission system. This way posts need to be approved by an admin or moderator before going live.

If you do this and their posts don't display they will soon get board and move onto an easier target.

I have removed ban now and I'll see what will happen.
