Date Posted: 08 August 2007 at 10:38pm
This modification has been upgraded from Web Wiz Forum V9 to V10.

Its a relatively simple mod that allows you and your visitors to see who visited the forum on that day. A box is added underneath Active Users on the forum homepage similar to the Active Users box.

New! As of V3.0.0 - The modification will now display a distinctive colour for Administrators, Moderators and Members.

you can download the mod from my website by viewing the http://www.s2h.co.uk/wwf/mods/who-visited-today/" rel="nofollow - Who Visited Today http://www.s2h.co.uk/wwf/mods/active-users-ip-display/" rel="nofollow - page.

Hi Scotty32.

Nice mod. However, I just tried copy you´re script mod to the latest WWF 9.03. It gives an error. Using your default.asp and it´s working fine. However i prefere to use the same file version as the original, and then just copi modification to it.

Just wanted you to know. I know the above script is for WWF 9.02.

sorry i dont understand.

are you saying you copied the edited parts from my mod into the v9.03 default.asp file?

if so you properly missed something.

Obviously this mod is only designed to work with V9.02
but you can check the version history of WebWizForums and if the default.asp file hasn't changed, then you can use the file from my mod

but i will be updating it for v9.03 properly tomorrow

Hmm, you´re right.. default.asp hasn´t changed. No worries then, I´ll use your file.
I wonder why it didn´t work when copying your part into the original one.. Guess I must have missed something then Embarrassed

I like this mod and thanks for keeping it updated.

I plan to put it on my 9.03.  Is there anything different from the original and this default asp file?

Or should I wait for your 9.03 update?

Thank you again!

There are no differences at all between WebWizForums V9.02 and V9.03 so you are safe to use this mod.

I have updated this thread and my website to state it works with both V9.02 and V9.03.

how would i add a most users ever online? just adapt what you have done?

spider, i dont believe i had a count on the V8 one, but it could easily be added.

freakyfred, i dont think that would really be connected to this mod. you would have to add a field to the database properly the tblConfiguration table that keeps the top count, then every so often check the Active Users count and compare it with the new field if higher, replace it.

Scotty,

the mod works great, however, it calculates "today" based on server time, not the forum time.

I'm using WebWiz hosting to run my forum, but it is located in US (GMT -6). And so the user list and count is being reset at 6PM.

Would this be easy to fix?

Thanks.

PS: Figured it out - I modified the code to use dtmNow = getNowDate(), and then use the dtmNow instead of now. Works good.

Scotty.

I was wondering if we can have something like Some links on left hand side which has atleast links to major forums/subforums a user can directly go to instead of going from Home all the time which is at the top of the page.

Also If only we can have something like Hit counter that goes along with how many members logged in each day.

Scotty since I have already modified my default for other reasons, is there a way I can use this code by just pasting a bit into my already modified default.asp page?
If I put in the one for this mod, I'll lose my other changes.......
thanks.

This mod comments as to where the changes are so you should be able to do this by copy and pasting everything between the following tags:

'## Start S2H Who Visited Today Mod ##

and

'## End S2H Who Visited Today Mod ##

also, there is an added include at the top of the page, make sure you upload this file and added the following to the page:

<!--#include file="language_files/language_s2h.asp" -->

that makes it simple! I'll find that bit and copy it in, along with the include.

I guess I could also use WINDIF to find the differences between your default.asp and mine.....

Got it! WOW, 68 users, but I suspect that's due to the server time offset........... for our day has just begun, the day in the UK now is probably nearly over.

That extra table bit is going to be quite large, I have a feeling!

I'm not sure I see what you've done. I have the same issue, it resets at 6pm and makes it look like no one has been there, but evening is our busiest time.
Need to modify to use forum time, not server time - can you give example of what you've done or used?

This would happen if the members that disappeared had visited in the last 24hrs + 10mins and you had no new members revisit, or not enough to outweigh the ones who hadnt returned.

Can you confirm that this alteration does work though? as it is hard for me to test.

OK, I've put the latest back in, and edited the text to indicate "past 24 hour period" and will let 'er run for a couple of days and see what happens.
By your message, assume that this doesn't "reset" at midnight, but simply tracks the members who have visited in a 24 hour period, so that's a rolling number - where before, it went up to 24 hours and then reset back to 0 and started again... is that correct?
So this should never go to 0, but will roll up and down, based on the last 24 hours out of "forever", right?

The script out of this bit, then the call to that script shown below.  (hope this works, have never posted code!)
I included some of the stuff before and after to sort of show where I put it - all in the default.asp

        window.sidebar.addPanel(title, url, "");
else if(window.opera && window.print){ // opera
        var elem = document.createElement('a');
        elem.setAttribute('href',url);
        elem.setAttribute('title',title);
        elem.setAttribute('rel','sidebar');
        elem.click();
}
else if(document.all)// ie
        window.external.AddFavorite(url, title);
}
</script>

I have however placed the code in my header.asp file and copied your little book image into my site, so I'm not "hot-linking" your image. Perhaps you should let others know not to do that, just in case they simply copy n paste

Sorry, I got a little mixed up Embarrassed it should indeed reset at midnight, and not be based on the last 24hours, so the disappearing behaviour is odd.

I'll have a closer look and fix if needed, but I assumed that it would work based on Pepa's post. Guess I now have to go do some testing

The list of people displayed should match up with your forums Memberlist, if you sort by Last Visited, anyone whos marked as visiting "Today" should be listed by this mod. If their not then I need to correct it.

Could you not just place the Javascript part into the forums Javascript file? (I believe its in the Includes folder?)

Would make it more tidier.

Right,

durin my testing, I realised that you cannot use the forum time offset, as it would course conflict with the dates.

To test it properly I set the time offset +8 hours, which put my forum time to 11:55, and at 12:05 it removed all users even ones logged in, because the dates do not match

The the database had the date "10/04/2008 3:05pm" but the time offset date becomes "11/04/2008 12:05am". Obviously the mod then things that the user visited yesterday and doesnt show them.

For now I think it is best to keep the dates in sync and use the server time to compare with the database which is also on the server time. Because of this I'm going to revert the mod back to version 2.04

Could you not just place the Javascript part into the forums Javascript file? (I believe its in the Includes folder?)

Would make it more tidier.

Picky, picky.....  LOL. yes, it should be done that way, esp for when later updates come.
I need to create a file and put it in the includes area, or scripts area.

durin my testing, I realised that you cannot use the forum time offset, as it would course conflict with the dates.

Might keep an eye on or take a look at our forum, see how it's acting, watch it a bit.
I've got the latest code, well, the latest until you make the latest code the earlier code...
Anyway, will be interesting to see what happens.
What would be the side effects of leaving your later mod in there? Forum crash? Making Bruce angry (just kidding!) or bad things happening?

Sorry, I was trying to be hopeful, didnt mean to be offensive.

There is a Javascript file included in the forum already:
<script language="javascript" src="includes/default_javascript_v9.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

I just thought it might be better to place it there.

The forum wont crash from using V2.05 of this mod.

All that happens is that the Forum Time maybe a day ahead of the Server Time at parts of the day, so it will discount everybody untill the Server Time is on the same day as the Forum Time. You may get other false readings aswell.

As you've altered your default page, you can put it back to V2.04 by simply changing
dtmS2HWVTDateNow = getNowDate()
to
dtmS2HWVTDateNow = Now()

If you play with the different settings, please let me know how it goes and which works out best.

I was kidding, sorry. No offense taken! Yes, I DO need to be more organized and neater.
It's a VERY good idea!

So can I add that javascript for bookmark right into that same JS file?????
THAT or even just create another js file with that code in it and "include" it?

Wow, that was fast! What great response - especially on free stuff.
Thanks.
We have so many other changes, not sure when 9.5 will or can be put into place, but this helps me knowing that it's one more item taken care of.

Thanks Scotty - Great mod Clap

I needed to make a slight change to it due to the the server for my forum being located in a different country to myself and a lot of my users - as such returning the list of users who have visited based on the server date didn't make sense to users.

I changed it to reflect users who have visited in the last 24 hours which now makes sense regardless of where the server and users are located.

Here's the modified SqlString I used in case it's of use to anyone else (not a problem if your server is located in the same country, although even then different time zones could make the results innacurate)

The change I have made is specific to MS SQLserver, a slightly different query would be required for MySQL as it does not support the hour parameter in the DateDiff function

strSQL = "SELECT " & strDbTable & "Author.Username, " & strDbTable & "Author.Author_ID FROM " & strDbTable & "Author" & strDBNoLock & " WHERE DATEDIFF(hh, Last_Visit , " & CHR(39) & now() & CHR(39) & ") <25"  & " ORDER BY " & strDbTable & "Author.Last_visit DESC;"

To reflect the above change i also changed the following value in language_s2h.asp

Const strTxtS2HWVTSummary        = "members have visited the forum within the last 24 hours."

Tony

I'm currently working on improving the Downloads section of my website.

Once this is done I will update any mods that need updating.

In the mean time, check the Version History for the forum to see if any files have been changed that are also altered by the mod.
If nothings changed then it should work, if it has you can either wait for the update or apply the changes to the file your self.

Hello, I wonder if it is possible to show visitors the month instead of visitors daily, if possible, inform the modifications.

Thanks!

Posted By: Scotty32
Date Posted: 12 May 2011 at 8:46pm

If you want to show users for the current month then change the following (line 373):

WHERE Day(Last_Visit) =" & Day(dtmS2HWVTDateNow) & "

to

WHERE Month(Last_Visit) =" & Month(dtmS2HWVTDateNow) & "

If you want to change it to show for the past 30 days then change it to:

WHERE Last_Visit > '" & DateAdd("d", -30, dtmS2HWVTDateNow) & "

About the "active users" (active_users.asp) from the WWF resource...

Would be possible develop a stand alone "active users" application for using it in any website, in order to know the active useres from the site with all that features?

This modification has now been upgraded to V10.03

As an added extra - I have now added the ability to show distinctive colours for the usernames of Administrators, Moderators and Members.

This is optional and only requires you to replace the CSS files with those contained in the download. If you do not wish to display different colours, then do not replace the CSS files.

If you have a custom theme, you can find an example file for the CSS contained with the download, you can change the styling to suit your needs.
