Subject: 9.03 bug w/ "Automatically log me in when I return

Upgraded from 8.6 to 9.03 licensed version.

Users complaining that forums are not auto logging them in.

Found that when a user goes to Member Control Panel and Forum Prefs - if they change the "Automatically log me in when I return to the Forum" from Yes to no - it is back on YES when they come back in  - and it does not work as stated above - it appears there is a problem w/ the field in the db that it is updating - it is not staying/updating - forum is not returning any errors...

MS SQL Version.

BTW: just did same thing on this forum and gor same problem - the value was not 'holding' when set from yes to no.

Sorry but what does w/ mean? Is it some type of special code?

Why not just write 'with' then?

Right then, now that we know w/ means with, then the question makes more sense.

When you select not to auto-login it doesn't save this in the database, it simply sets it for the present session on the forum.

If you come back to the forum once your session expires you will need to login again, and select not to auto-login to the forum from the selection box.

This has always been the way that Web Wiz Forums has done this and has not been changed or altered from version 8.

fair enough - where would I look to see why my users are not being auto logged in any more...worked fine w/ v8... does not work with 9.03

What files would I look at? I have really only changed a couple of files mainly default_style.css to add the colors I want.

I believe it solved it... I had added a simple index.htm file to the dir with 'site under maint' message - I went into IIS and promoted index.htm to the top of the IIS list of files (default.asp, index.asp, index.htm)  etc - while  I was working on 8->9 version update... when I finished I moved default.asp back to the top to have it load the forum again - but I left the site down message file, index.htm, in place on the web server... that seems to be what is causing the problem. Deleting the index.htm file fixed the problem...

Thanks.

Well.... all worked fine for a while... now it is back to not auto-logging in any of my forum members... I have recreated the site in IIS, upgraded to 9.04 -still not working. I really don't know what 'fixed' it last time.

Can someone give me a direction to take to investigate. It does not autologin under IE6, IE7, Opera and Firefox browsers...

Thanks in advance.

Ok ... this one is one me - I never realized that when you use the quick login - it does not set the cookie to auto log you in the next visit... my question is why not? That should be the default I would think. Especially when I read BORGs description on how NOT to auto login works - it is per session...

Is there a way then to 'remove' the quick login boxes? I would rather not allow that and force everyone to the normal login.
