I looked at the online information but I couldn't tell if the default setup writes to a file or exactly how it saves the textarea information. Thanks

It doesn't, it simply changes any pre-existing standard textarea into a WYSIWYG RTE area.

You would need to create your own web forms and process the data however you need to. Once you have done this you can apply the RTE to the textarea to turn it into an WYSIWYG RTE area.
