I just got this error when I try to go to my forum page and was wondering if anyone knows what it means. I did correct it by downloading and compacting my database and then uploading it, but I would really like to know the meaning of this error and if anything special can be done to prevent it.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e4d'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Too many client tasks

It also shows a comment referring to line 232 of the common.asp file

This is what line 232 is in common.asp: adoCon.Open

Thanks In Advance

Do you get that error all the time or once in a while?
Does your forum get a lot of hits?
Aslo if you are using a DSN connection try using DSN-Less connection for this. It seems to be a common error with the system DSN database.

Today was actually the first time I received this error. I only have about 60 forum users right now, but a lot of my users have been on the forum at the same time and after starting my forum about two months ago, this was the first time I ever received this error. Also I am already using the DSN-less connection to my database.

Does this error mean too many users on the forum at once or is it just something I have to prevent by compacting my database often?

Yes it is possible to have too many queries at once. This is an Access database side effect, though I don't know much about Access limitations and if 60 users would be a bit too much for it to handle. If you rarely get this error you can live with it, if you get it all the time you might have to look into using MSSQL.

I used to get this error all the time, I dont think its about how many users you have but more to do with how many users are using the forum at once. I think its getting overloaded because of the limitations of access.

Anyway, the answer to your question is really to upgrade to the SQL version, thats what I did and have never had the error since!!

Cheers

Kev

Great to know that someone can rephrase everything that I have just said in the previous post.

cose i get the error on a site where AM the only one on it,

it isnt the forum, but its the same error

i know this is the Forum Support part, and not the ASP part,

but sumone already posted it  so i guess i dont need to post it again

or do i have to?

anyway i get the same error on my site, not usin the forum, but its only me, and at the most 2 others, it doesnt have 2 much info in the Database, could it be that ive accessed the database 2 much on the page?

I am getting the same error on version 6.28 - I think I sorted it by changing the conn string from...
strCon = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ......
to...
strCon = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source="......

if I converted the database from Access to MySQL would it have the same difficulties from too many people using the forum?

You get this error on shared hosting when the server is running out of resources becuase either there are scripts running on your site or other sites on the server that don't release server variables thus using up all the memory.

If you leave it a couple of hours, IIS resets itself freeing back up the server memory, thuise stopping this error.

Access can handle 250 concurrent connections, but as IIS pools connections you could in thoery get even more.

after changing the conn string it is now giving to following error:-Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Unspecified error
/forum/default1.asp, line 302  (this changes on refresh)

I can see that sometimes when the page fully loads there is nobody looking at the forum (just myself as the forum is now sealed off) so the amount of numbers shouldn't be an issue as thought but all other DBs (Access) on the site work fine

Wait for the server to reset itself and free up memory.
