Subject: Member Profile Problem

Not sure exactly what happened but earlier today I was able to update member profiles and now I can't go into anyone's profile except the one I am logged in as (which is an administrator). All other member profiles get this error:

 Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a005e'

Invalid use of Null: 'CBool'

/member_profile.asp, line 174

Any ideas? No code has changed whatsoever in the site recently and as far as I know there have been no new upgrades on the server (hosting company usually notifies me if there is).

After further review it seems to only be happening on profiles that where created before the v9 upgrade with the exception of my profile and a test member profile I use... I have a few new users since the upgrade and they work fine.

I uploaded a fresh copy of member_profile.asp and that didn't either... so I've ruled out a corrupt file.  Any ideas anyone?

This is the line it is related too:

blnNewsletter = CBool(rsCommon("Newsletter"))

On v9, a new field is added to allow a member to say yes or no to a newsletter subscription (option only appears if you turn on Newspad intergration).  Looks like some of the fields are blank (null), rather than a yes or no / 1 or 0 etc.

Might want to check out that field in your Author table, to see if any are blank.  I assume during the database upgrade, this field would be added to the table, and then populated - have you run the database upgrade from v8 to v9?

Yes, I had issues with the upgrade:

I ended up having to create the fields manually per borgs instructions. It corrected the registration problem and I just found this issue... any idea on what I need to do at this point?  Is there a script I can run in SQL to update those fields?

Try using:-

If isNull(rsCommon("Newsletter")) = False Then blnNewsletter = CBool(rsCommon("Newsletter")) Else blnNewsletter = False
