Myself and my users are being oerwhelmed with emails, even tho the users (and me) have unchecked email notification of new posts.  I'm getting notified of new threads, etc.  I've checked and double checked my settings, yet I still get hit with an email.  My only option, which I have taken, was to disable email notification at the Admin level.

I'm using CDONTs and clearly its working fine!  I just do not understand why WebWiz isn't honoring the settings.

Yea, its rather frustrating.  Almost as bad as, by hand, turning on editing and polls for 3 user levels in 30 forum areas....a global option would've been awesome!

A couple of my forums members have started reporting the same thing too... receiving loads of mails relating to topics they haven't subscribed to. I've checked the database and everything looks in order.

Has anyone found a workaround/fix to this problem?  Thanks in advance

What version of the forum are you guys using? There was a bug that did this but it was fixed (around beta 4 or finial i think).

You need to make sure that members have not subscribed to a forum, if they have then they will get emails for all posts in that forum.

To stop this they can either click the link in the email to no-longer receive email notification, or go to the forum on the page displaying all the topics and click on the Un-subcribe link at the bottom of the page.

I'm running v7.01 final, and the database shows that the members who are getting the mails haven't subscribed to any threads, or any forums. I think only a handful of members are receiving the unwanted mails, but the database doesn't explain why.

I had the same thing happen to a few of the users of my forums, and none of them had any requests for e-mail before the forum upgrade (6.34-7.0)  I just ended up disabling all e-mail options on the admin section to solve the problem, since it's not too important for my users so they can live without it, but this appears to not be an isolated incident, so hopefully a fix will be figured out.

I have had a few people on this forum complain about receiving email notification when they said they hadn't and each time it turned out that they had clicked on the link to subcribe to a forum or topic, or had the 'email notify me of replies' boxed checked when posting in the forum.

A quick check of the table tblEmailNotify will give you all the author ID numbers of those people who have subcribed to get email notification and more than likly you will find that they have, whether intentionally or not, entered themselves in the list.

Borg,

I have folks who have only visited the forum once getting emails about new posts in areas they have never viewed.

Is there a way to undo all the notifications and start again fresh?

It's all held in the table tblEmailNotify, you could delete all the entries in that table.

But, the way the code works it is impossible for a user to get email notification unless there is an entry for them in that table, which only happens if email notification is selected by the user.

Also there is a link in the email notification to be removed from being notified by email, all the user need to do to unsubcribe is click this link in the email.

Dratt...knew I'd regret using Access 2002 and not having Office XP to edit that out

Well, email notify stays off I guess since i can't edit that out.

This is very strange. I've just had another person contact me to say they're getting loads of unexpected mails. I've checked and double checked the database and that person definately has not subscribed to any topics or forums.

boRg.. I understand when you say it isn't possible for the forum to mail people who don't have an entry on the tblEmailNotify table, but there definately was no record there, as was the case with a couple of other people who also complained of receiving loads of unwanted mail.

Is there any other possible explanation for this? If it's of any relevance, I used the migrator tool to convert from 6.34 to 7.01.

I have now deleted every single record in tblEmailNotify, so we'll see if that cures it. I don't see why it should have any effect though, as the records in it had nothing to do with the people who have complained.

And in a little twist to all of this... this very thread here has been sending me loads of messages too. This is a slightly different problem because I am subscribed to it, but since LePaul's post at 10.24am 10 May, I have a large number of notifications that there are new posts, even though there aren't.

Exactly

See my Admin account was getting pummeled with notifications of topics I'd never checked on to get notifications.  I thought one was a fliuke, but 2 or 3 was getting out of hand.

I cant access my tbl but if Borg could add an option to, from the admin menu, reset all mail notifications, that would be great....this why all could be purged.

In my case, it was driving users away from my forum.  Ugh
