I know there has been a similiar mod around here. But if you look at the screenshot and the implementation, you will see the difference. Sometimes little differences can be handy. This is why i decided to share the mod.

Mod has been upgraded to display information more accurately.

Description:
This mod displays usernames of the members visited the forum today.

This mod also counts how many visitors have visited the forum: today, yesterday, total in this month and in previous month.

The best of all you only need two lines of code to be added into default.asp to use the mod.

Implementation:

1. Download and unrar the file. Put everything inside the forum folder keeping the directory structure intact

2. Open default.asp. Around line 5, after this line

<!--#include file="functions/functions_date_time_format.asp" -->

Add following line

<!--#include file="files/inc/fnc_todays_visitors.asp" -->

3. Around line 871, before this line

If strBirthdays <> "" Then

Add following line

Call printTodaysVisitors()

It should read.........

We had 4 members that visited the site yesterday.

Or..........

We had 4 members visit the site yesterday.

Great mod thanks. I was trying to add for the last year by using

dtmTodaysDateTime = DateAdd("y",-1,Now())

but it's showing less than the previous month?

i also tried

dtmTodaysDateTime = DateAdd("m",-12,Now())

but that also did not work. any ideas what i am doing wrong?

just realised what i am doing. I am showing how many ppl visted a year ago and not in total this year. Doh.

Here is a detailed view of DateAdd function.



DateAdd(interval,number,date)



interval (The interval you want to add) takes the following values:



    * yyyy - Year

    * q - Quarter

    * m - Month

    * y - Day of year

    * d - Day

    * w - Weekday

    * ww - Week of year

    * h - Hour

    * n - Minute

    * s - Second

I was trying to add how many people had visited in the last year but ended up adding how many visited 1 year ago.

If you just use -1 as the interval, it will count from today.
Say, today is 11th September, 2007 it will display visitors visited the site since 11th September, 2006. If you want to display visitors from 1st January, 2006 to 1st January, 2007 some coding will be required.

Ok here's some for you.........

1. Points for posts, length of posts, starting topics etc.

2. If that can be done, maybe some sort of betting section where you can bet all or some of your points on a outcome of something as set up by staff.

3. Multiple quoting. If you wish to quote something more than once, it's annoying having to copy and paste it and then go back and do the same. There has to be an easier way to do it.

4. Quick switch from section to section. Like a drop down menu at the bottom of a page so you can get quicker to another section.

5. If the first one can be done, make a store section for forums so that people can use their points for other stuff like bolder titles, changing their name slightly etc.

6. When quoting someone, instead of a plain quote which mentions username, make it so it brings up the date and time as well of when the person you quoted made the original post, like Proboards do.

There's some to think about and I shall think of more for later.

Hi Stardust,

Thanks for the mod! I don't use many mods on my personal forum, but this is definitely one that I will be installing. I just had a quick question... Will the added information (not just who visited today) make more calls to the DB, possibly slowing down a bit?

When we create dynamic websites with db support, guess what happens. But what do you mean by slowing down a bit? How much this 'a bit' can be tolerable?

I asked the same question to my instructor at a very early stage, he said never to use DB then :)

What I mean by slowing down a bit... will there be performance issues. Will pages load slower i guess. I was just wondering about that though, I still plan on using it regardless, but I was curious if the db was going to take a performance hit

I have a couple questions though:

1. How do I alphabetize the list?

2. Here are my forum stats as-of right now:

Members visited today: 48 
Members: (names removed)
Trackback: We had 35 members yesterday, total 173 on this month and 90 on the previous month who didn't visit again till now.

what is meant by "90 on the previous month who didn't visit again till now"? Does this mean that last month I only had 90 visitors, 90 who haven't returned yet this month or some other definition? Please define the 90 more clearly.

This DOES NOT mean 90 members visited last month.

If 250 members visited last month and amonst them 200 members come back sometime this month, then the stat will show '50 on the previous month who hadn't visited until now'

This small info is useful to some ppl, but for some it is of no use. v2 of this mod will certainly have a wide range of features and reports

I PMed boRg asking for permission for creating a new admin page from where Administrators can send emails to members that didn't visit the forum for a while. He replied, ppl would need to buy licensed webwiz newspad in order to mass email members.

So the admin page gets stopped and so the feature.

This mod gets a fix so the version upgrade. Update your versions guys! And do pay attention as the only file has been renamed.

Guys i had a terrible week. Last week i had 3 consecutive days when my site was down. It was a network issue on the data center and it has been fixed now.

This mod is not 100% correct. It does not give you all the visitors from the previous month, just the last 30 days or whatever it is so it always counts differently.

Are you sure freakyfred?

Take a look at the script that grabs last month visitor in the mod. Here is the SQL string:

dtmTodaysDateTime = DateAdd("m",-1,Now())

strSQL = "SELECT " & strDbTable & "Author.Author_ID FROM " & strDbTable & "Author" & strDBNoLock & " WHERE month(Last_Visit) =" & Month(dtmTodaysDateTime) & " AND Year(Last_Visit) = " & Year(dtmTodaysDateTime) & " ORDER BY " & strDbTable & "Author.Last_visit DESC;"

I think your observation is not not correct.

Well i tried it and it counts the last 30 days, not last months visitors. It does the same with the "who visited yesterday" bit. It doesn't keep solid number for who visited, it simply reads who visited in the last 24 hours which is not correct for who visited yesterday. Maybe i am wrong, just something i thought i noticed. thanks.

The way last visit date is stored in db it is only possible to show total number of members visited today and this month and this year

and

total number of member in yesterday/last year we are missing. That is, some members visited some day ago but after that they didn't visit the site. This mod counts and categorizes this members and shows the count.

It is not possible WITHOUT modifying the database to count the members visited in a day/month other than today. And some members prefer not to modify db.

If you ask for db modification, that will become a statistics mod with a great deal of bargain on the db.

And the mod says,

Members visited: Today 4, total 7 on this month

And the mod never counts last 30 days but the last month. If this month is February, it counts for January.

Same goes for yesterday/last year and bla bla bla.

Why don't you look into the code?
