If a user want´s to know who´s is who, and looking for such an example all the mods, how do they find them?
There´s is no special colors for mods or admin? No special links to show them. Have I missed anything when I made the install? Hope anyone can answer it. Is there a MOD?

Sorry to jump in but why does the email notification for this post look like this:

There isn't any separate page or color to locate administrators or moderators. But there is a solution.

If you go to member list from the top of any WWF pages, you will see the list of members on the forum. It is sortable. Here you can see who are the moderators and who are the administrators.

Administrators have the highest ranking in a Web Wiz Forum environment.  So left to each and every post and private messages, you can see the member's rank.

I have looked again and just see that every apostrophe is getting preceeded with an A hat.

If you know the cause or solution please tell me straight.

Borg may not get a chance to look through every post, i suggest that you PM him with the link to this topic and brief him with the issue.

Lets give the guy a chance first...my experience is that Borg keeps tabs on things well and its not urgent. He'll notice his name being used now !

Oppsssssss... i just noticed this topic is posted in the Support sector and not the Modifications sector. Ok well yeah, Borg does look through these for sure.
I thought it was posted in the Modifications forum, that why i suggested sending him a PM.

The reason is that this user is using a character in an encoding different to your email client, if you change your email cleint to utf-8 which is used for the forum the character should display correctly.

Yes that appears to be the cause but after doing a few minutes research I am stuck for an appropriate solution and suspect a forum issue.

For info, I use Outlook 2003 set up as standard. I have just learnt how to change the encoding on a specific message (only this forum needs me to do that) and this fixes the display but I cannot seem to change the default format for incoming messages (only outgoing). I guess the encoding is supposed to be determined by an indicator within the message anyway?

Interestingly, emails from this forum seem to be recognised as Western European (ISO) as are CNN's messages...however messages from Skype are being recognised as Unicode UTF-8. Is the UTF-8 indicator missing from forum emails?

Bottom line, is there something wrong with the forum emails or my Outlook setup or are we expecting everyone to make some not very obvious changes withing their email client perhaps on every forum message received?

Let me know if I need to try something or help by providing further info.

You mean like YABB and some others do. I like that feature.
I suspect someone who is good at mods could create that pretty easily based on group membership, put in the text/tags to color their name/link.

To others - the idea here is NOT to force the user to make 5 clicks, look up users, etc. but to see WHO is online that is either a mod or administrator. We want to see their names in another colour in the online list at the bottom - not to have to look through the member list and figure it out.
People often visit a forum and use that feature in other boards to see if there are moderators online or the admin online (and some use that as a "there's never a moderator or admin online when you need them" sorts of statements...........)
It also allows one to easily contact a moderator or the admin by seeing they are a different colour, clicking their name in the online list, then sending them a PM. VERY nice and handy feature of some boards.

Editorial: It's amazing to note in this thread the question is asked, then it degrades into a totally other topic that IMO should have its own thread.......... and the original question is lost and not answered.....  OK, so it's MONDAY here.

Not only can you sort members by group as mentioned above, but you can choose the number of stars displayed for a group. I suspect you could replace the 4 start icon too if you wanted....would this do it?

Sorry, that still misses the point in that you must search for them and find out if they are online. Our point is to see if/when they are online with a glance. So no, that would not do it.

Take a look at http://amccars.net/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl - http://amccars.net/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl   or for that matter any yabb board and other boards like it (I've seen other bbs's do this too). We want to know from the list of current online members which is a mod or an admin, not to have to look at some membership list, or as you suggest, posts by a given member to discern if they are a mod or admin.

The point - have their name show up a different color in the list of currently logged in users so one can tell at a glance. Not to have to look at their profile, posts, etc.  There are a number of reasons members wish to do this.

You have a point billd3. If the Active users list would contains member group names along with member names, it would be great.

If doing it the active users way the stars (and group names) would be useful plus column sorting like the member list.

Borg any help with my posting yesterday at 11:04am - or shall I start another thread. I need to know what to tell members.

What's wrong with just a simple "if member of xxx then" and have the code type in the html color when showing that name.
------------------
Member(s) online: billd, 2drwgn, Ohio AMX, claysjavelin, 12Gauge, George of the Jungle
--------------
Where the blue is a moderator and the red is an admin, or whatever.
SIMPLE, uncluttered, and anyone can tell at a glance that there are two moderators and an admin online right now.

Simple sounding solution - to make it right for the majority of users the colour options would have to be in the CSS file if there were only 2 groups and perhaps against each group record in the database if you wanted a colour per group...then it gets more complex for upgrades etc...implications !

Ok. Lets dig it.

My apologies for my lack of skill in coding.

Have anyone noticed, the way active user information is stored, there is no place to store user group information. Only re-coding the functions will make storing user group information.

There is an alternative way to come out with same result. Query the database for each user and grab the user group information.

Well, sounds the solution? What if you have 1500 users and 50 of them are online? 50 extra queries to database.

Alternative:
Open up author table and grab all the user ID's and their group ID in a multi dimensional array. Now for each active user extract the group ID from the array. Only 1 database query. But still a lot of processing when active users list gets heavy.

Now we get member group IDs associated with member names. Now decide the appropriate color for the member name and we are done.

And in my opinion if and only if boRg stored group ID in the active users array, the mod would be simple like breeze.

boRg?

One more point.

Sometimes admins assign users who are not member of moderator/admin group to moderate forums. How we decide who are those users in this mod?

i will look into making a mod to show whos a mod/admin based on color for the home page

but you can show select groups in the members list, for example:

http://forums.webwiz.net/members.asp?gid=1

changing the 1 to the ID of the moderator group would show moderators.
