Hello WWF land Smile

I have just been setting up our forum hosted by your good selfs, but am getting reports of a few people not being able to register.

Its rather odd.  One members username is normaly [PSI]Necromancer (16 chars) but i can only get it to accept [PSI]Necromance (15).

But, i have another registered user called {DMF}MissConduct (16 chars) and some even logner.

I'm a tad confused Confused

Any ideas appreciated Smile

Ok, this problem is starting to cause some issues.

I have had complaints from a number of people saying they cant register.

I have checked the database field for this and it says it can be 25 characters long.

The latest person who tried to join was trying to have a username of [PSI]FrankTheBunny, but that failed.  I had to register the account for him, but only by shortening it to FrankTheBunny.

Other people MUST also be seeing this problem...Any ideas anyone Cry

Usernames in Web Wiz Forums have always been limited to 15 characters long. The database field allows up to 25 to allow enough space for HTML character encoding.

But you can physicaly type 20 characters into the username textbox input field?

So [PSI]FrankTheBunny should be accepted Confused

Sorry my mistake, version 9 allows 20 characters for usernames.

I have just tested this with version 9 using the username [PSI]FrankTheBunny and was able to register an account in this name and login and logout using the same username.

Well i have tried to register that name from a number of different machines running different browsers and on each one i get the following error:

The website cannot display the page

 HTTP 500

Most likely causes:

  • The website is under maintenance.
  • The website has a programming error.

What you can try:

javascript:clickRefresh%28%29 - Refresh the page.

javascript:history.back%28%29; - Go back to the previous page.

res://ieframe.dll/http_500.htm#">More%20information javascript:expandCollapse%28infoBlockID,%20true%29; - More information

The first one you mention the 500 internal server error look like an issue with mySQL if the username is above 15 characters and contains [ and ].

The second issue you mention, I've had a look at your forum and could add buddies to the buddy list that contained 16 characters. The textbox itself to add new buddies to your buddy list allows 25 characters.

Have found the issue, the characters [PSI] are encoded by the page encoding and become:-

[PSI]

This then means that the field in the database can not hold anything above 16 chacaters for a username that contains [PSI]

Your database on your hosting account has been altered to allow 35 characters to try and resolve this issue for you.
