Question:

I recently got my internet host  to move all my files to a hybrid server (one that runs both ASP and PHP). I want to begin running banner ads on my site and the software that I want to use is openads ( http://www.openads.com - www.openads.com ).

Openads runs on PHP...can I insert PHP Openads code into Web Wiz forum code?

Last I heard, you couldn't combine two server-side scripting languages. I'm not a programmer though, so someone else here may have a tweak to allow that. I did google this though and it appears that you can not do that.

This is a response I got from the openads forum:

If your server allows PHP, you can serve Openads on that server. If not, you can host Openads on a PHP server and still serve banners on your ASP website (on the ASP server) by using Javascript, iFrame, XML-RPC, or Image ad tags.

Not exaclty sure how to read into this...sounds like it's referring to 2 DIFFERENT servers...not the same hybrid server that allows both ASP and PHP.

Most Windows web hosts these days will offer support for both ASP, ASP.NET and PHP, so it's not an unusal setup more of standard these days, which is why Windows server 2008 IIS 7 will have better support for PHP.

However, you can not use ASP and PHP in the same file. You can not even use ASP and ASP.NET in the same file and they are both Microsoft technologies.

The best way to get around this type of thing is to use an IFrame so that the PHP page isn't part of the same file as the ASP page.

Also with many ad software products you can use JavaScript to display ads in a page which is not PHP like static HTML page, or ASP and ASP.NET pages.

Thanks so much for the info -boRg-

What would be the best way to serve ads and provide statistics to advertisers using Web Wiz? Is there anybody out there that uses openads with Web Wiz? I got the idea from this forum about openads so I assume that there are some people using this combination. I'd love to hear from these people.

I use OpenAds (phpMyAdsNew) on my sites, and i use iFrames.

Mostly because ive had the odd time where the ads dont work or are slow, and in JavaScript its stopped the whole site from loading, where as with iFrame its just the frame that doesnt load or is slow to load.
