Hi guys

I have a problem when uploading an .mdb file via ftp to my web space.
I get a high upload speed when I transfer any other file type but when i try to upload my access database it never reaches above 1kbps and even disconnects every few minutes.

I have even made copies of the original database and tried that but it is the same problem. any ideas? The file is only 4.8meg.

I really need to update my website but cannot because i cant upload my database!

Any help appreciated
Thanks
Mark

Contact your web host, they maybe restricting or throttling certain types of upload.

I have been in contact with 1and1 and all they seem to say is get another FTP as there shouldn't be a problem which isn't much help becasue there is a problem

I have found this wepage that seems to be the same problem as I'm getting:
http://help.alentus.com/article.aspx?id=10581&cNode=5W8A8J

although my web site at the moment only has one page with no db connections! Could there be a problem with my localhost connecting as i have tried to upload the sam db to another web site with a different host and encountered the same problem.

I'm sure there is a simple explanation but the words needle and haystack come to mind!

Thanks in advance!
Mark

I think the answer to your questions is right there in your first paragraph. I'm yet to ever hear a good word about this host, and if you want to use any of the software from this site you would need to change web hosts anyway.

hmmm who would you suggest then? i've been with 1and1 for years and apart from their awful customer service, ive rarely had problems

Well obviously as we are a web hosting company we would suggest ourselves  Wink

But if you search around Google there are plenty of web hosts out there with good reputations.

i have used filezilla, fireftp and ws_ftp and all the same

when using filezilla i noticed that the upload would refresh every minute exactly and show date on the file would go up one minute each time.

how would i change the modes?

new information regarding this problem!

What i forgot to mention was that i was behind a router. Now, I have removed the router and connected directly to the internet through my cable modem (no router involved) and tried the upload - and it went up fine!

I dont know what is wrong but i believe it to be something to do with NAT - whatever NAT is on my router!! I have messed with settings and not solved the problem, but there must be something i can untick or enable to allow my upload to successfully pass through my router.

any ideas? please!!!

thanks
mark

My advice would be ditch Access anyway and use SQL Server. It doesn't look like Access would be supported for much longer in the web environment anyway which is good news for web hosts as Access places allot of strain on the web server and requires that servers are setup insecurely with read and modify permissions for Users on the windows/temp directory in order for Access to work.
