I've just re-implemented WebWiz forums, and from the control panel I locked the forums to prevent users accessing before I had completed the configuration.

Now I can't seem to unlock the forums. Attempting to access the URL just gives a forum locked page.

How do I fix this?

Andrew

You need to navigate directly to the admin.asp page and login directly to the admin area.

Should the lock really effect Admins ?
As if they have the power to login and remove it whats the point of locking them out in the first place ?? Im sure there is a reason behind it just am curious :D

That's actually a good point. There isn't even a username/password requested when the forums are locked. If there were then it could potentially be arranged that only an admin user could successfully log in, and that user could be automatically diverted to the admin options - thus ensuring that no-one (not even an admin) could get to the forums proper.

Worthy of some further thought in terms of a small design enhancement perhaps?

The reason for the forum frontend showing a maintenance page when the forum is locked to prevent any type of database activity from happening.

This is useful for things like upgrades, compacting Access database, and a number of other reasons.

The page in the online admin area does have a message informing the Admin that if they lock the forum they then have to log directly into the online admin area to unlock the forums again. This would work fine, except in situations were people don't read the instructions on the page.
