Hello Mates,

I'm kind new to webwiz and all this forum stuff... We have a website that we have just installed webwiz a few weeks ago ( http://www.dartingaround.com/forum - http://www.dartingaround.com/forum )

I want to be able to have an email sent to verify who they say they are (email addy that is). I know how to turn this option on in webwiz. But the backend I need some advise.

We use WinMailServer as our mail server. We do not use the Win2003 server SMTP services (CDONSYS, or whatever it is!). We have a seperate outbound smtp addy and an unique port that we transmit out on... Which on of the email applications would you guys suggest. Looking for something that is basically freeware/opensource.

Thanks

You only need to use the IIS SMTP server with CDONTS which Microsoft retired some 7 years ago now.

All our forums are setup to use CDOSYS were we specify the outgoing mail server. With CDOSYS not only can you specify the outgoing mail server but also a username and password if the mail server requires authentication.

However, if you want to use a non standard port other than port 25 (I don't know why you would as it doesn't add an extra security) then you would need to edit the code to change the port number.

Thanks for the information borg... is there a help sheet on editing cdosys... I have never messed with it... The reason we use a non-stardard port (2525) is due to our 25 port is used for another domain and is blocked for us!

It's very simple in Web Wiz Forums.

Open in a text editor the file functions/functions_send_mail.asp and at line 192/193 you will find the following:-

'SMTP port
.Fields("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserverport")  = 25

Change the part in read to the required SMTP Port number.
