I just enabled uploads so people can add screenshots to their posts. Uploading works fine but once I add an image to a post and try to post this, the browser hangs. So when I add an image, the image appears correctly in the rich text editor. I simply cannot post my message.

In case you want to try realtime: http://www.systemscript.com/forumps1 - www.systemscript.com/forumps1

Am i doing something bad or wrong?

There is no reason for it to hang as the image has already been uploaded when you post your message. All the post will contain is an HTML link to the image.

It could be a browser issue though as sometimes (epically IE) can throw some strange browser bugs when you enable the Rich Text Editing mode of the browser. Try with a different browser or on a different PC and see if you still have the same issue.

thx will try but I am afraid most of our clients use IE

I see two things:

1. when trying to upload, I get error messages occasionally telling me the image format is not supported yet I chose a jpg image which was supposed to be supported
2. I managed to upload two images. When I insert them into the rich text editor and then try to submit the post, IE7 waits forever showing the wait cursor.

This might be due to corrupted JavaScript files.

Re upload all the forum files and see if the problem still persists

1. Try updating to version 9.07 as there are some issues with JPG's made in Photoshop and other Adobe software due to the XML they place within the file which courses the image to be rejected when it is scanned for malicious code.

2. I have seen this before, very rarely and not for a few years a few buggy versions of IE 5 would course the browser to hang when submitting a page with multiple images when in RTE editing mode. The only cure at the time was to reinstalling the browser.

-boRg-,

Issue 2: I do not completely agree, I have found issue 2 for me when the rte js files are corrupted sometimes. I have been using WWF for a very long time, from the time when you saved active users into db (from before the rise of SOOP, lol). I have seen in many cases, the RTE hangs if the js files are corrupted/ not properly loaded into browser. And yes, about the IE bug, this might also cause the problem.

Thanks for your feedback.
I wouldn't want to replace all files since I have made adjustments (localization). Could you point me to the script files responsible for this so I could renew those?

or would it make sense to upgrade to 9.07 and by doing so automatically refreshing all script files? My real problem is that I love the forum software but my real focus is elsewhere and every time I need to touch the code base - let alone upgrading it - I am afraid of breaking anything. So I'd much rather try and replace individual files first... Embarrassed

It becomes harder to debug if the environment is different, files are modified etc. But you may take some steps.

Step 01: Browser BUG
If it is the famous IE 5 family, consider reinstalling the browser.

Step 02: Re-upload following files:

Dir Name: [forum]
edit_post_form.asp
new_reply_form.asp
new_topic_form.asp
RTE_* (files started with RTE)

Dir Name: [forum]\includes
default_javascript_v9.js
RTE_* (files started with RTE)

If the problem still is there, give me some more info on which browser the problem is raising; Operating System; and what modification you have made.

Have you tested with uploading original WWF files and testing with them on the same browser?

Thanks a lot!
I will try this. I am using IE7 on Vista as-is preinstalled.
You can try for yourself at http://www.powershell.de - www.powershell.de . Someone tried before and managed to insert a picture but I guess it was not with IE7. I am having the problem with IE7 on different machines (all Vista).
Maybe if time permits you can try and post a pic on that forum with Vista/IE7. You should experience the same problem.

I'll also try and replace the files you mentioned but won't be able to do so before next Wednesday.

Unfortunately, I do not use vista.

MS seems to be getting all buggy when they release their first version of any software. I'll wait further and install vista on my machines later in this year.

I do not mean vista is buggy.

I do know in IE7 in vista several options are disabled. I cannot recall the settings now. under tools>options you'll find several options regarding scripting. You may post a screen shot of that here for me to suggest you further.
