I have a website that has been hacked, and i can't access the administrative functions anymore.

I know another webmaster that encountered the same problem with his web wiz forum (his forum has been hacked 3 times in 5 days - it's the second time this happens to me in a week, but this time i can't login as an administrator).

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Will a longer password help?

You've left your database unsecure!!!

If you leave a database where it can be downloaded then you leave yourself wide open to any hacker.

If you follow the forum documentation that comes with the forum on how to secure your database then this won't happen. You should have done this when installing the forum.

Always worth reading the instructions.

Thank you for the quick answer.

What's the best way to fix this now?

Can i upload a new database to solve the problem?

Thanks again

yes, uploading a new db would fix the problem, also you could download your db and get the admin password from it and log in and fix it........

In the documentation with the forum there is a step bt step guide on moving and renaming the database.

You want to place the database outside of your website on the web server in a private folder.

You then need to edit both the common.asp files to reflect the new location of the database and the new database name.

Once this is done a hacker won't be able to download your database and get the passwords form it.

Also in version 7, you have the added protection of having all passwords 160bit one way encrypted, so even if the database is downloaded and hacker won't be able to get your password.
