Hi, I am considering moving my site to wiz. My site is a community site so I cannot be down for long.

1. Is there a method to set up and get a site working before the domain is transferred? ie buy a domain set up then change the domain?
2. The Business website hosting package comes with the forum included. Does this forum have your logo. If so how much extra is it to have it without the logo?
3. Is it a shared server?
4. I have an existing access database which runs on
Windows NT 4.0 Server
Windows 2000 Server
Windows 2003 Server
Can that run too?

Thanks for any pointers.
Richard

  1. You get a pre-propagation URL which allows you to fully test your site before you update your domain name to point at our servers.

  2. All Web Wiz Hosting Packages come with Web Wiz Forums Premium Edition (Brand-Free) installed on your hosting account for you. This is the $249.99 Brand-Free Edition (for free) and doesn't include Web Wiz branding. You can also request to have the software updated to the latest version at no extra cost, so you can make sure you are always running the latest release.

  3. All our Hosting Packages are presently shared hosting packages. The servers are all sparsely populated Quad-Core Intel Xeon servers with at least 10Gig of RAM, and 15,000RPM SCSI RAID Harddrives. The servers are constantly monitored at 30 second intervals from monitoring stations in the UK and US, if a server or service develops an issue our engineers are paged immediately. Full backups of servers are also made each night.

  4. Access databases are supported. Although we do give you both SQL Server and mySQL databases for free with all hosting packages and recommend that you upsize your Access database to SQL Sever. The reason being is that Access places allot of strain on web server file systems and slows down your site by a considerable amount.

The Servers are currently running Windows 2003 Server, although we will be shortly releasing packages on the Windows Server 2008 Platform which was released to manufacturing yesterday. Our engineers have been trained by Microsoft on this new platform and we have fully tested Access and will be supporting it on this platform.

You will be able to upgrade your site to the Windows 2008 Platform when that is released, or stay on Windows Server 2003 which we will continue to support.

Will look forward to it, and if you need any help migrating the site and/or upsizing your Access database to SQL Server we can also help out with that.
