Bruce... the prices on the form do not reflect the discount. Should I expect it to show the discount on the charge?
Also... if I sign up for monthly hosting... how long do I get half price?

The discount will be applied when you enter the promotional code above on the payment confirmation page.
The promotional code discount will only be applied to the initial payment.
If you want to have 50% off for 12 months, so the monthly costs on the Starter Community Hosting are equivalent to £1.66 per month, you would need to select the annual payment and then enter the promotional code on the payment confirmation page which would reduce the payment to just £19.95. This includes SQL Server which many web hosts would charge £15.00 per month on top of the regular hosting charge for.

I signed up for an account and must say I am very pleased with the speed. I have another account with jodo and their .net 2.0 apps ran like fish (well they didn't run). Good job Bruce - plus I like your Helm CP much better than jodo's CP (only comparison I have right now).
One question I have though which is not clear from the description - also since I only have on domain on there right now - do you get one sql db / domain on the Business plan? or one DB per account?

With the Business Package you get 2 SQL Server databases of 150MB each. You can use both these databases on one domain or if you add another domain use the second SQL Server on that.
If you require more SQL Server databases or extra space then this is also available as an option extra through your Client Area account. I beleive it works out around £4.16 for each additional SQL Server database after you use the 2 you have with the package.

R U kidding me?? Half price? What if we sign up for 2 years - can we get all 2years or 24 months for that? Or is there a one year limit? That includes ANY hosting package? Even enough to run our http://theamcforum.com/forum account? (which I *think* would run on the business account...)
WOW!
OK, now the business and devil's advocate question......why? In the states, businesses typically only run such specials for one reason. Yeah, it's not because yanks are nice, either.

If you pay annually then you will get 50% off the first year, this includes any hosting package. At present we do not have 24 month contracts.
The reason for this promotion is to promote our web hosting services. By offering such a discount we hope to see a large number of you signup and once you see how good the service is you'll stay with us for many years to come and even tell your friends and hopefully they'll signup to
We have a massive capacity available through our network and servers which can easily accommodate 1000's more web sites.
Over the next few months we hope to also include many new services, including Virtual Private Servers (VPS), Windows 2008 Server Hosting with IIS7, sandbox development server for testing preproduction scripts and applications, and many more services.

I had to ask, because we have sworn to our members that the forum WILL survive, it will never disappear, it will always be available (well, there MAY be brief outages lasting minutes, nothing lasting days) I want to make sure YOU will be around, too and we won't be moving again in 12 months! Many of our members came from 2 other AMC forums that went belly-up, they disappeared for various reasons and people are very gun-shy. They are afraid that we, too, will disappear. So we've sworn we won't disappear. That's our first mission. Always available and we'll be around in years to come. Backups are important. Availability is important. I'm the responsible party. Gulp!
I'll do some looking on your site here, but will an install on your servers support direct image uploading and hosting within the forum? A lot of folks have pictures of their cars and historical documents and dealership items. Features, we want features, too!
OK, we can lock 12 months at the half-price offer, and that's all we can pay for for now, correct? Then we'd do another year at a time after that.
Our current host furnishes us the space, etc., they do nightly backups, but we pay a premium to be able to have them selectively restore a file or files, should one get messed up. We call them and ask them to restore xxx.xxx file from last nights backup for example. They also furnish our domain name for "free". In other words, we pay the hosting fee, pay about $1.50 a month restore service, and they pay for our domain name. One name. Additional domain names are at the regular price. They call it "free domain name for life".

Web Wiz has been here for over 8 years. We have 1000's of customers and host 100's of web sites including for some very large national and international companies, all our equipment is full owned by us and paid for so we will not disappear any time soon.
The servers are fully backup each night and you can request the restore of files free of charge. Deleted files are kept for 28 days, and the last 7 changes to files are also kept. For more information please see the link below:- http://www.webwiz.net/webhosting/backup_service.asp - http://www.webwiz.net/webhosting/backup_service.asp
All hosting accounts included the Web Wiz Forums Premium Edition installed and updated for free. You can make modifications to the forum software and file and image uploading can be enabled as we do have AspUpload as well as other upload components installed on the servers.
At the present time payments are for a 12 month period, but if you wanted more than contact sales and we can have a look and see what we can do for you.

Thanks. No more reset sessions! That's a big thing now - active topics and users online keep disappearing due to that reset session memory you educated me on last year. I think we've reached our breaking point. That and your constantly answering my dumb questions.
I'll start making plans and getting the finances taken care of. I'm sure the others will agree.

Hiya - I must say as a ver recent new customer with Web Wiz, that I am very very very pleased that I took the plunge. Bruce was really welcoming and accomodating, and with so many webhosts around who have lost that personal touch and service, it was really warming to find there are still some decent peeps out there who run businesses like we do, with honesty and intergrity
Thanks Web Wiz

Bruce do you provide MS SQL database management through SQL Server Management Studio?
I am especially interested in import and export ability of huge data. Some hosting companies like GoDaddy offers very attractive hosting packages, but if you wish to move your existing website which contains about 200 Mb data in database, it is almost impossible as they do not provide restore of the existing backups, and ask you to import data using CSV files, how did you resolve this kind of situations?

The following page on our SQL Server Hosting should explain what you need:-
http://www.webwiz.net/webhosting/ms_sql_server_2005_hosting.asp - http://www.webwiz.net/webhosting/ms_sql_server_2005_hosting.asp
The myLittleBackup Tool we provide online is excellent for backing up and restoring database, infact I often use it rather than the tools in SQL Management Studio.
With this tool you are able to create backups of your SQL Server database and store up to 4 copies on our file server or download backups to your own machine. It's then very easy in SQL Management Studio on your own machine to restore the database using the restore form backup tool in SQL Management Studio.
You can also build a database locally in SQL Server, make a backup of it in SQL Management Studio, then use this tool to upload and restore the database on our servers. This is often better than using SQL Server Management Studio in transferring databases as SQL Server Management Studio often doesn't transfer Primary Keys, Default Values, etc. However, by backing up your database and using the myLittleBackup Tool we provide it restores the complete database.

I'm working on it! I'm trying to see if our current host will give a refund of the unused 15 months......... Without that we can't afford a move.......
The biggest issue will be file transfer and the database transfer and uninterrupted service while things are moving.
We used nearly 20gig bandwidth in Feb already. 13gig in January...... I think the backup of our MS SQL database was about 28 meg. We've got the forum and some large document scans as far as files. 639 members, 26,302 posts, 3,142 topics, 29 forums. The highest online we see is about 50, then the sessions reset and we see 2 or 3 until it builds again so I suspect we actually have 60 or 70 online at a given time.

That would not be a busy forum compared to many on our systems so their would be no issue at all in hosting it on the Business Packages which would give more than enough diskpsace and bandwidth for a forum of this size.
Usually we can transfer a site for you with none or minimal downtime, however transferring an SQL Server database is another matter and you would more likely need to put up a message that the forum is closed while the database is transferred.
We should be able to transfer the database for you, what would make it faster is if your host allows you to create a back up of the database (a .bak file), if they do then transfer time could be as little as 10 minutes.
You should contact sales via the contact us section of the web site so we can work together on the best migration strategy for you with the least inconvenience for your users.

Yes, I can go in and do a backup, which takes only a couple minutes. Then it displays a web link to use to literally grab the BAK file. I can make a backup and have it on my PC in minutes, so a site-to-site should be fast.
My main fear was space and bandwidth. Although we don't use a LOT of space now, future plans DO call for needing more space. The current host offers a LOT of space, but well, we know how they can do that! LOL.
After we move, we'd then also like to move to the latest version, but AFTER it's moved and stable. Not do both at once! Well, maybe, though.............
Users want the "post since last visit" feature of 9 and later, now if they were off a day and there were 6 replies to their message, they get to the most recent and have to find the actual earliest reply. It seems you have that covered now.
Still waiting on a "refund of unused months" from current host........ BTW - we are http://theamcforum.com/forum and people LOVE it. Good job.

How many more hours??
It's 6:51am here in the U.S. and the bank doesn't open until later and I've got to transfer some funds! We picked up another small donation, enough to get us the initial time to get going, but it's got to be transferred. I'm at work for 5 more hours! Tell me we have that long?? 5 hours from NOW = 6:52am

Not sure which form to use - the sales one specified it was for sales and non-technical billing things only. I did use the general inquiry one.......... should I use a different form?
Since we get NO refund of unused year, we can keep current things running while the new one is being "built" and made to LOOK like the current system, then move the data when it's convenient. No hurry moving from old host since it's paid up for another YEAR.

billd3,
I know it was a substantial financial choice to "walk away" from the $ paid to your existing host, but I think you will be happy.
I don't have as big a site as you by any means, but I'm launching a new one and having the hosting and forum all together is sooooo much easier than how I had it before (jodohost). It's really quite idiot proof - which is good, since I'm the idiot!
The Helm control panel is fantastic and they have a trouble ticket system for questions/problems that is even better than posting here. Bruce is crazy fast on replying to tickets. About the only trouble is remembering the time zone difference between the US and UK. If you work on your system during the day, you may wait, but if you are a late nighter it's great as midnight here is office time there!
Anyway, good luck and post back with how it's going...

Frankly, Bruce, I'm glad you folks are so busy you can't keep up. That's good news. If you were sitting waiting for something to do, I'd be nervous.
We want to add WIKI, databases of info and "decoders" so folks can enter the numbers from the tag on a carburetor and find out what year it's from, which engine and so on. Same for other numbers, like engine tag numbers - X = a 390 cid, and there's numbers and letters for the year and month it was made. We want a form where folks can plug in those numbers and see exactly what the engine size and year it is. We also want photo galleries of the cars of our members. We AMC nuts LOVE to show off our cars, so we want to have the ability for members to upload photos of their cars, viewable in a gallery format. So we'll need bandwidth AND SPACE........... it's going to grow well beyond just the forums....

Just signed up for another Business Hosting Package.
4 sites for £99.99 per year is pretty good value but with this offer I've only paid £50 for 12 months of hosting for another 4 sites. That's what I was expecting to pay for another 1 site!!
I've been using Web Wiz Hosting for a while now and I have to say the service I've had has been fantastic.
Keep up the good work guys.
