| The passwords for the users in SMF are stored as a hash, hence encrypted so to speak. If I use the import tool, will the users be able to log in using their password from SMF? |

WWF uses a different encryption for user passwords. You would have to re-generate the passwords or edit the password encryption method to use the SMF hash encode code.

Your users could use the 'Forgotten Password' tool to request a new password be emailed to them so they can login.

It would be and if the imported passwords are in plain text this is not a problem as it will retain the originally password. Did you mean non encrypted by 'plain text'? The passwords work as salt and password pair. Then if the tool copies salt and passwords then it should not be a problem. is it?

I don't think you are getting th point.
