Subject: Active Topics issue after DB migration
Date Posted: 09 March 2008 at 11:19am
Database Type: MS SQL
SQL Server version: 2000
Forum Version: 9.08

Issue: After migrating the database from one SQL server to another, my forum's Active Topics page shows some forum sections being repeated. On the default page it shows the forums ok (not repeated) but it happens only on active_topics.asp as shown below:

What I have done: backed up the original database on the old server one more time, and restored it again on the new server but still no solve. I have also replaced the active_topics.asp file with a fresh one... and still having the same problem.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

These types of issues are often coursed by incorrect permission settings where permissions in the db are repeated.

To fix this log into the admin area and go through your forums re-submitting them so that the permissions are reset.

Bruce,

Thanks for the response. I tried the above.. it fixed one of two troubled sections... i re-did it but the second section is still being repeated... is there anything else i can try to fix it?

Check the user permissions in the same way as well.

Bruce, Thank you again...

I did the samething with permissions group by group but it did not help...
but here is how I fixed it: I created a new forum. I then batch-moved all topics from the troubled forum over to the newly created forum... i re-synched topics/posts... then deleted the troubled forum, then re-created it... and moved back all topics to it.
This fixed it... but i only thought of this fix after you advised me that it had to do with permissions... so thank you very much :)
