I just downloaded and installed the free version of Web Wiz Forums so i can test it out so i can decide whehter or not i will buy it.

I have to say that up to now i am very disappointed from it and i am looking into alternate solutions that are cheaper.

Here is a list of things that do not work:
  • I can't change the logo
  • I can't save an edited post as when i do i get a HTTP 500 - Internal server error.
  • If i edit a post, add a message icon i get a HTTP 500 - Internal server error. This also happens when adding a post with a message icon.
  • If i edit a post, change the sticky topic i get a HTTP 500 - Internal server error. This also happens when adding a post and changing the sticky topic.
  • There are also many features disabled which does not allow to fully test the forum. We cannot go forward into purchasing a product if we do not fully test it and make sure that it meets our standards.

These are only some of the issues that have high priority.

I await a reply.

The Web Wiz forum is a great product that many people have had lots of success using, myself included. In order to figure out the problem you are having, you need go into your Tools / Internet Options / Advanced and uncheck the box that says "Show Friendly HTTP Errors". Once you've done that you'll be able to tell us the line number and types of the errors you are receiving. It sounds as if there is some sort of misconfiguration in your database setup.

Actually, it works great.
http://theamcforum.com/forum - http://theamcforum.com/forum   is our current version 8.xx
we will soon be moving it all over to this spot
http://theamcforum-com.olympus.webwiz.net/forum/ - http://theamcforum-com.olympus.webwiz.net/forum/   which will be the latest version 9.xx

The few small issues we've had were taken care of promptly, we were never left hanging.
It works, and works well. Our members are VERY happy. So happy, donations have paid for our move to new hosting. They are confident in their online home. And that says a lot considering the history over renditions of the AMC forums have had over the years.......

Gotta understand, this is not a cheap/free package with no support or security. It's a professional package like if you were to buy Microsoft Office 2007 (actually, it's more stable than that and you get better support).
Most commercial packages only "give away" or allow out the door for trial scaled-back versions. To do otherwise, means they are giving away thousands of hours of development and testing to folks who may never otherwise pay for that time. Something has to be "held back" to get folks to do the right thing. If everyone was 100% honest, then he could say "try the whole thing freely for as long as you want, but please pay when you go into production". and the world would be rosey and the birds would sing, and he could eat something other than frankfurters for dinner. But because some attempt to squeeze something for nothing, he's got to lock it down for all.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

The myODBC 3.51 driver really lets down mySQL as it can be very buggy, and things like installing service packs can also break it.

Try reinstalling the latest version of the myODBC 3.51 driver on the server.

hello,

I just installed and got the same error;

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers hata '80004005'

[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver][mysqld-5.0.27-community-nt]Build WHERE -> insert_fields() failed.

/newspad/functions/functions_common.asp, satır 438

Reinstalling did not solve the issue. Any idea?

This forum is for Web Wiz Forums support, but your error message has NewsPad in it.

Not sure if you are posting in the right forum, if it is NewsPad you should post in that forum so we know which product that we are looking at.

I have found from past experience that the latest myODBC driver isn't always the best and rolling back to slightly old myODBC 3.51 drives can often fix errors like this.

We have several hundred of the mySQL versions of Web Wiz Forums running on our servers and are always very cautious of updating the myODBC 3.51 driver as have often found installing the latest driver can course all sorts of issues. Even once after installing the latest driver it killed all our servers, every time the driver came underload it would freeze up all the application pools on the servers preventing all sites that were not static HTML from running. Rolling back to a previous myODBC 3.51 driver fixed the issue.

Better still if you have SQL Server you should use that as SQL Server works much better with ASP than mySQL does due to the bugs in the myODBC 3.51 driver.

As you have access to the server to install myODBC driver then you should also be able to install SQL Server. The free SQL Server Express is ideal for running Web Wiz Forums and actually use the Express edition of SQL Server installed locally to run this forum.

I didn't had an older version to upgrade to 3.51.25, just i installed the lastest version of 3.51.
Which driver of myODBC version i have to downgrade exactly to solve this error?

Thank you!

We are currently running on our servers 3.51.22 without any problem.
