I have a couple of VERY BIG Topics (6300 Posts) that need deleting, everytime i try i get the following error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005'

[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

/delete_topic.asp, line 156

The forum is working fine and I can delete any other topic just not these big ones. The scary thing is that everyones post counts keep going down with each try but the topic is not being deleted

Help!!

I changed the topics to announcements so I could delete them from the admin panel but got this error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005'

[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

/functions/functions_common.asp, line 732

I can assure you the server does exist and access is not denied as the forum s working ok!

I was looking at the other delete old topics thread (which didnt show up in a thorouth search by the way) and figured out that this is probably to do with it timing out.

I refreshed the page for ages but it did not delete one post in the thread, all it seems to have done is taken my users with the most posts count down to zero, is there any way I can ge there post counts correct again? or am i going to have to appologise for screwing up the forum?!!
I really need to get rid of these posts, and if there is no other way to do it than to delete all 9000 posts one by one then I am going to have a real problem!!

It looks like the database is timing out.

Often in shared hosting environments the web host will enable the broker service, if the SQL Query looks like it will take over say 5 minutes to complete it will reject the request, which as the error is an access denied error on from the SQL Server appears to be the case in this instance.

There isn't any way around this as this is setup by your web host and deleting 9,000 posts from one topic is allot of posts and so will more than likely take longer than the maximum specified time set by the SQL Server admin.

If the larger topics are not coursing a problem you maybe better leaving them and closing them so no-one else posts in them.

You can manually set users post count by editing their forum profiles.
