I've been looking around in web wiz, and maybe I'm over-looking it. Is there a way to send an instant 'welcome' type PM to a new members inbox? If not, I'd definitely like to request that as a feature.

Thanks Bruce... I looked but didn't see anything. Do you remember seeing something? I'll look again if so. Tried the search, and looked through every topic.

As did I, and did not find anything.
That would be handy and nice, esp for busy forums. Now, we do it manually when we see a new member. However, I suspect we miss some.......

The reason why it has not been added before it due to the limitations of Access databases.

However, things have moved on over the last few years and most people now have either SQL Server or mySQL with their hosting packages.

This means Web Wiz Forums can move on as well and start adding more features and performance enhancements for these better databases.

It will be better to continue development with MS Access.

Web Wiz Forums version 10 will still have an Access version available, but like the present Access version it will be for testing purposes and not be supported in a production environment.

As things progress and new features are added to the database and more data is stored within the database Access will be able to cope less and less with the amount of data.

Access is a desktop database and support for it using ASP was only introduced with NT4 as Microsoft had very little else at the time as SQL Server was to expensive back then for most people to use.

Since then you now have the free SQL Server Express aimed at web sites and is ideal for running web sites, forums, etc. from.

It also looks like now MS are trying to phasing out support for Access in IIS. They had a hard time getting Access to work with Windows 2000 server and now it looks like everything is going over to 64 bit that they are not going to be creating a 64bit JET driver for Access, so it looks like Access's time as the backend for web sites is now limited.

Even the CHEAP hosts have MySQL or MSSQL or similar available.
Access is "handy" as anyone with no experience can use it. But it took me only 30 minutes to get a FREE SQL server running at home, and it's based on SQL2005, so i can do my testing on my home IIS server with the MS SQL Express and it's EXACTLY like running on a REAL web host server.
As I've found with Access and even Outlook mail files, when Microsoft keeps EVERYTHING in a single file like they do with those, they don't do well when they get large, and there's more possibility of corruption, etc.
