Help....

Just added WebWiz forums to my website package "Elexio.com" and when users try to activate the email upon registration the file is not found. Is there something needed in my code for the registration process to work?

I have a Go Daddy hosting plan and at present I am using Web Wiz Verion 9.06 Access batabase. Since I can't upgrade to the new 9.50 version. Is there anyway that I can download the Web Wiz Forum 9.08 Access Version?

Thanks in Advance

You can always upgrade to a latest version without much or any trouble.

Bruce and the folks here see to that. Especially if you keep good track of the files you have modified.
I still need to move my bookmark script out to a script file and just put an include in my default.asp, otherwise most of the mods I've applied will move easily to newer files.

This limitation on the number of PM's is only in the free Express Edition.

Unfortunately we can not give you everything for free in the Express Edition otherwise there would be no insensitive to buy a license.

It would be nice to give you everything for free but we all have family and children to feed so can't do a full-time job and not be paid at the end of the week.

Bruce, any chance you could put up a comparison page for each of the WebWiz products please?

Yeah, but for the NewsPad, CAPTCHA and RTE?

There's been times when I've gone to try the free NewsPad, but forgot what the limitations are etc.

Posted By: WebWiz-Bruce
Date Posted: 21 May 2008 at 3:02pm
The limitations for these others are on the download page.

NewsPad is limited to sending to 50 users, and the CAPTCHA and RTE have no limitations in the free editions, you simply purchase a license with these last 2 to move the branding.

A compare page maybe useful for NewsPad but for the RTE and CAPTCHA you are getting the full version anyway.

Is this forum supported under IIS7 (Windows Server 2008)?  The reason I ask is I tried installing it and it seems to mostly work but when I try to edit a post I get the following error.  If it's not supported then please kindly ignore.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver][mysqld-5.0.51b-community-nt]Build WHERE -> insert_fields() failed.

Web Wiz Forums does work under Win2k8 IIS 7 which is currently being used for this web site.

The issue you have is due to bugs in the latest myODBC driver. The last myODBC driver that was stable and worked was myODBC 3.51.21

mySQL is a good database, but is sadly let down when used with ASP due to the myODBC driver being very buggy and unstable. If you can you should use the SQL Server version as SQL Servers database driver is very stable.

I am very pleased that the product is in continuous development; very compliments. For myself, given the numerous variables and risks, I will install the new versions as soon as an decent auto installer is offered.

Upgrading is a simple as uploading the files and images from the latest version using FTP. All the configuration data, posts, members, etc. are in the database so are not lost.

Not upgrading is running a bigger risk as new releases contain security fixes. Most people who get hacked are because they didn't upgrade.

Cheers! Downgrading the stable myODBC driver cleared things up rather nicely.  I think it's great that webwiz.net is running on Windows 2008.  It shows you guys are comitted to staying current!

Unfortunately, my view is commercial and, if there were a reliable automatic upgrade, I would be able to convince and install your product to my customers. I do not have time to do any modding custom, to get them to write a cmd or other routine for a service that probably would not be appreciated by the standard end customer. Pinch
I think that a procedure for automatic update is more useful to you and to your business rather than the individual user.
Time is money and unfortunately less and less ....Unhappy

It would be great to be able to have an automated updated, but unlike desktop software with it's one click exe, this is not possible with web based software written in ASP as most people only have FTP access to their web space.

For the type of software Web Wiz Forums is, it has been made as simple to install as it possibly can, and allot of people do comment on how simple it is to install.

Unfortunately I don't think we will even see the day when we can have auto updates the same as in desktop software due to the limitations of the technologies used, mainly due to higher security requirements on server that allow anonymous website access.

I for one think the software provided is excellent and offers real value for money, especially if it is FREE or even paid for. I suppose the way forward for Frontpageserver would be for him to in turn offer "his" customers the support and updating assistance if he wants to introduce Web Wiz as a commercial application to his clientel, and as for modifications, we all probably modify the package to our own likes, and as we are all aware, the onus rests upon "us" to deal with the reprecussions of doing so. Bruce rightly points out that he presents the TOTAL asp package in the forum software, but although time is money, I doubt if anyone would actually be impressed if he charged thousands of pounds for some completely updatable and mod allowing "super software" that could make you a cup of tea whilst updating the enormous changed variables of its own accord

No offence intended but I'm sure if you can create such a tool as you mention in your post, then you'd be selling it by now Wink

Are you still experiencing this error?

I have am getting the same error, when I try to edit a post, but I am using MySQL 5.

I used Navicat 8 to migrate my Access DB to MySQL, but import/export.

Any ideas on a resolution?
