This morning, I was making my weekly update to my includes/header.asp page.
I
finished the small blurb I was adding with #1 font (8 pts). When I
went to view my page, everything below the header was also in #1 font
-almost unreadable.
Although the page looked good in my preview, I tried changing it around several times without any improvement.
So
I decided to re-upload the whole includes directory. After this was
done, all I can get when I try to access my forum is this message:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01f4'
Variable is undefined: 'getForumConfigurationData'
/common.asp, line 81 I'm lost as to what to try next.

This looks like you have corrupted your header.asp page which links to other pages, if that is the only page you have been altering, then the problem must be there. I would suggest that you could download the version of the forum you are running, unzip it, but then just copy the includes/header.asp page across into your existing forum, and then just upload that, and see if it sorts the problem

Thanks for the reply. I've tried other versions of header.asp, but to no good end.

What version of web wiz are you running? Is it FREE or paid for?

Paid for version 9.06
I've downloaded the install files for 9.50, but I'm a little hesitant to start an(other) upgrade unless it's pretty simple.

Okay
So your version is 9.06 but obviously the headers that you have downloaded are not version 9.06? Hang on a mo

The header was a modification of the 9.06 version

Right, I have compared the includes/header.asp files on both 9.06 and 9.50 systems, and both are IDENTICAL. Now assuming that was the ONLY file that you have changed and modified, then uploading only a new 9.50 includes/header.asp file should sort the problem
Of course if you modified anything else then there may be problems

I went through much grief upgrading to 9.06, but as far as I can tell, I don't need to do any of those things to upgrade from 9.06 to 9.50.
I DID only change the header.asp file, but I've replaced it with back-ups (tried two or three) and still nothing but the message mentioned before.
I have a large collection of uploads and images that my forum users have uploaded and of course I've modified the footer.asp file before all this began. Can I just upload the 9.50 file that I want over the old 9.06 ones with any hope of curing the problem?

The 9.50 file is IDENTICAL to the 9.06 file. In theory, uploading a fresh untouched version of that file should cure your problem. I would back up your footer file that you have changed too, and just upload a new header and footer file. If your problem only started with this header file, which you say it did, then logically it must be the issue that is giving you this problem now. Obviously, however, if it does not work, because it is a paid for version, you could then open a support ticket with web wiz and ask for support which is why you probably paid for the forum version!
Hope it works I'll be back in 20 minutes or so, but you can perhaps catch me on my forum too if not

I changed to other versions of my header.asp file. In fact, I've tried uploading MOST of the web wiz files from my backups, but no change. I'm starting to wonder if something could have happened to the server while/when I was working on the pages, but that seems like quite a coincidence.
I'll see if I can find how to open a support ticket.

Interesting note. I tried feeding this url into my browser http://forums.homestead.org/includes/header.asp
What I got was the header file with no problems, so I'm wondering if it could be another file that's at fault, but which one?

I assume that you would have paid for support? Obviously Bruce is a really helpful guy so I expect it can be sorted. If you have a licence key, then I would maybe consider upgrading to version 9.50
Your paid for version should give you http://www.webwiz.net/webwizforums/kb/applying_license.asp - access to the client area

Perhaps this one:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'
Include file not found
/common.asp, line 249
The include file 'admin/SQL_server_connection.asp' was not found.

Okay, so I noticed that the common.asp file in my root directory was much smaller than the file in my backup, so I replaced that common.asp file with the backup.
Now I'm getting THIS message:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'
Include file not found
/common.asp, line 249
The include file 'admin/SQL_server_connection.asp' was not found.
More as it develops.

Okay This may be something to do with a simple folder management issue When I get onto your homepage and to the left you have links such as

When I hover the mouse over Forum, your link shows as : http://forum. and not forum/
With a forward slash

I think you may have forgotten to put the login info into the server.connection file. Username, etc

I'm finding all sorts of things wrong or missing now. Hard to imagine it was working fine when I first logged in this morning.
After I got the message that mentioned, "admin/SQL_server_connection.asp' was not found." I discovered that I didn't have any "admin" directory anywhere but in a very old backup, so I'm uploading that.
Not too optimistic about this..

It may be possible that somehow your actual server has been corrupted. When you login into your server, can you see all your files there, or just bits and bobs?
Maybe, just maybe, you should delete the ENTIRE forum folder, then upload version 9.50 as a fresh install. As long as you set up your connections file properly, it should allow you to connect to the forum Remember though you should not leave your admin/SQL_server_connection.asp file there anyway for security reasons

I've been thinking about doing that. (upgrading to 9.5) Do you know, can avoid re-uploading my large directories full of images?

Did you get my PM nshel?
I think you would only need to upload the forum itself, since everything else is stored on a database, including I assume the images you are referring to The rest of your site is unaffected, its only the forum isn't it?

The clients have uploaded tons of stuff into the uploads directory and I'm trying to keep it all.
I see that I'll have to reconfigure the database connection info, but maybe it's worth a try.
Got your PM and replied. Thanks.

Seriously, if you are unsure about what you are doing, open a support ticket and wait for Bruce to give a hand. It would be awful if you lost something so important, but I'm pretty sure the uploads directory is not one that you should overwrite as you will definetly lose anything within it

Well, oddly enough, it's (pretty much) all working now.
I did open a support ticket, but I didn't wait. (My forum members get antsy and start emailing me.)
Thanks for all your help.

If it happens again you can try forcing Web Wiz Forums to reload configuration data by typing in the following:-
default.asp?reload=1
If it is a server issue as this looks with configuration data being loaded this should fix the problem straight away rather than waiting for the servers app pool to recycle
