I might be working on a project soon that will require some video editing... Has anyone got any experience with video editing software?

There are so many different programs out their, and I am not sure which is the best.

Could anyone advise me?

In the past I used http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Home+Video/Studio+Family/ - Pinnacle Studio ... it's very easy but if you're looking for something more fancy then http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/ - Adobe Premiere would be a good one if you learn how to use it...

So given the choice, is Adobe Premiere better than pinnacle feature wise?

Adobe Premiere is much better. It's used by movie production professionals and even taught in universities as  a popular video editing tool. If you learn how to use it then you're just lucky as you'll impress every1 around Cool

When I was faced with the task of editing my Wedding Video - I dabbled with Adobe Premiere. I don't think it's worth it over Pinnacle for "basic" stuff. If you just want to cut-edit-paste do the occasional transition and some light/sound adjustments Pinnacle is more than enough. If you need to do parallel runs of 2 or more videos with intersecting sounds etc. go ahead and play with Premiere

Michael, I agree... for small projects Pinnacle Studio is more than enough...
Premiere is hard to learn... where as one tutorial of Pinnacle Studio would allow you to create a good looking video with effects, etc...

I've just had a play about with the Adobe Premiere Pro trial and seems complicated. I think i'll go with Pinnacle, there are a lot more tutorials on how to use that.

I tell you what I have been using and I think its really great
http://www.magix.com/uk/movie-edit-pro/plus/pr/ - Magix Edit Pro 14 Plus

Current UK deal direct from Magix is £57.99 Download or £59.99 Box plus for a limited time they are throwing in Crazy Talk 4
Magix works well with Vista Ultimate, and is obviously XP compatiable

I recommend videohelp.com to search for information, reviews, instructions and tools. It may be overwhelming if you're short on time and just looking to do something simple but if you need to get into it deeper, that's the place.

I'm gonna run right out on a limb here, and probably get flamed.......

I don't know what O.S you are using but why not give windows movie maker ago.

firstly it's FREE.
its easy to use - drag and drop
you can lay multiple tracks
it dose transitions, all sorts of effects and you can edit sections of the video on the go.

I have used movie maker, Pinicle and premier. Sure premiere is cool but why buy a Ferari to drive around the local shopping centre car park????

Check it out you might be suprised.

I'll have a look at VideoHelp, see what they say about things.

Move maker - i've used it before. I didnt know it did multiple tracks - I thought it only did audio an video.

I'm still trying to decided.... all this choice!

Not at all (the flaming bit)
Movie maker is cool and quite adept at handling most projects. However, as a step up, and a cheap alternative compared to more expensive software, its pretty cool Thumbs%20Up
Having said that you need to get used to another NEW system again, which takes time

I agree - if the Video itself is in good quality and all you need to cut, Movie Make is top - but if you need to adjust sounds and light, it falls short.

I think for my project movie maker is out of the question, for one minor flaw - it doesnt have multiple video tracks.

1. It works
2. It does what you want

and finally
3. Get used to it
