I've recently launched our new Web Wiz Forums ver. 9 on our site, and some of our users are reporting a strange problem when trying to make posts with images.

According to their statements, the error occurs, when they've made a post containing an image in the RTE. As soon as they submit the form to save the post, their computer freezes up completely, and they even loose connection to our site or the internet (not completely sure which - our users aren't tech savvy).

Both users are on PC with IE7.

I have no clue how to debug this. First of all I don't get the error myself. Secondly, the description of this error sounds unreal - how can this make their computer freeze up?!

My best guess is that it must be at some point when the RTE content is being processed by javascript before being posted in a form?

I'm hoping that someone else have come upon this error, or maybe Bruce have a qualified guess about the cause of the problem, knowing the system in detail?

I've moved this post to the Web Wiz Forums support forums.

This issue sounds very strange, once an image is added to a post only a HTML text link is stored in the form, not the actual image so this should be submitted the same was as you would submit a post that doesn't contain an image.

Often when strange errors like this occur it's due to Internet security software like Pop-up Ad Blockers, Firewalls, AV, etc. The best thing to do is get your users to whitelist your website in any Internet security software they have running.

Hmm.. Actually I didn't think about adware/pop-up/anti-virus at all. That could be it.

I did notice in one of the user's servervariables, that she has something called SIMBAR. After googling it I can see, that this is some sort of Adware, and that is has caused problems with social network site Ning. This could be it.

I'll try to have her remove it and then return with the result.

Thanks!

Just a quick follow-up on this...

It turned out that it was in fact the SIMBAR adware thing that was causing the problems. Removing it made our user able to post images images.

Thanks for the assistance!
