I'll be short and sweet...
I've exhausted the knowledge base and search options here.
I have a forum (thepenshop.net) that is version 7.96 which is no longer supported.  I recently took over this forum and this is what I inherited.

I want to upgrade to version 9.* but before I do, I've got some issues that have me pulling what little hair I have left.  Turning off "friendly error messages" I get the error "The system cannot find the file specified" .  Highlighting the address bar and refreshing gets me where I want to go.  Member uploaded pictures only show up as red "x" boxes, when I try to put a smiley on a post, no go.   I've even seen some kind of a stack error.

I think these issues need to be cleared before the upgrade as I don't want to take them with me to the new version.

Any thoughts, suggestions would me most appreciated beyond belief.  ClapClapClap

Thanks so much in advance....

Edit in: I'm using IE 7 and am only having this problem on one computer.  Microsoft was no helpAngry

When you took over the site, did it transfer hosts? as missing member uploads may be because of that (they never got sent over), if you right click on the image and click properties to see where its loading the image from - then look at your server via FTP to see if you can find the image at this location. or another location. (eg another "uploads" folder)

And the Smilies it sounds like are missing too. The stack overflow error would disappear after an upgrade, as after an upgrade all you keep is the database.

As for the "file cant be found", does it mention which file? which page does it appear on?

I think its safe to say that all your issues would be fixed by an upgrade, except for the members uploads.

On a side note - remember to backup your database before you attempt the upgrade.

Thank you for your help Scotty,

Hosts didn't transfer, just ownership.

The "cannot find file specified" is all that shows up.  I assume it's the one on the browser address bar.  If I refresh, I get the same error message.  If I highlight that address and hit "enter", it shows up.

Pictures: If I click properties and cut and paste onto address bar, I see the picture.  If I go back to the original post, the picture now shows up.

Is this some freaky mess or what????Wacko

I'll be ordering the premium edition and have someone else do the transfer.  I've got some bad karma around meUnhappy

If you are worried about upgrading then we do hosted solutions starting from just £3.33 per month which include the Premium Edition for free including all installation, transfer, and upgrading for the life of your hosting package.

It's a bit like a managed hosted forum solution for all those less techie people.

Why not do a test migration?

Just install the new WebWiz into another directory on you server, copy the active database and run the conversion to the new 9.5x format on that copy.
You can then start testing and see if the issues are still there.
Thats how I did my migration from 7.x to 9.5x, worked like a charm.

Personaly I do not think you problems are related to your db.
