Thanks!
But clicking "Download this file" leaves a blank page.
I see that it is not compatible with the "Who visited us" mod?
This means it cannot be combined?

Thanks,
I've downloaded the mod and implemented in my own dafault.asp following your installation guide.
I get:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01f4'

Looks like I'm missing the language related files?

|
OK,
It was related to the language files and I fixt it.
I see it only shows the last Topics and not the last posts, is that easy to change because I have a lot of reply's in my forum but only few new topics?
I know I'm asking a lot, but it should be perfect, right?

I personally feel its better to show the last post in a topic, rather than 10 posts for one topic, As it will essentially only show one topic 10 times.
If you want to display posts rather than topics, then you can simply use the mod that comes with WWF, in the Extras folder.

Just a question, would it be possible to have the date added so you can see when the topic was replyed to?

Which version?
The error you get is because the languagefile is not there and therefor the 'strTxtS2HLTHeader' cannot be show as 'Last Topics'.

Have you copied the code into your own page?
If so you need to also add the include for the language file provided like so:
<!--#include file="language_files/language_s2h.asp" --> |
Add this to the top of the page under the 'functions_date_time_format.asp' include
Though I am not sure if this was included in the current release. I will reupload (along with the addition of the date which I forgot about, sorry i2paq)

If you are using my mod on a non forum page then you will need to include the 'common.asp' file.
you can do this like so:
<!--#include file="forum/common.asp"--> |
You will also need to include the language file like so:
<!--#include file="forum/language_files/language_s2h.asp"--> |
And you will need to close the connections to the database by adding the following after the 's2h_latest-topics.asp' include:
<% 'Clean up
Call closeDatabase() %> |

Thanx for your answer.
Has done as you said, but nothing shows up.
The 3 lines i have put in is:
<!--#include file="forum/common.asp"--> <!--#include file="forum/language_files/language_s2h.asp"--> <%'Clean up Call closeDatabase()%>
See the result:

I have updated this modification to version 1.03.
The update adds support for MySQL database, it also adds two new options.
The first option allows you to change the topic display limit, the second allows you to change the forum link path if you have used the modification outside the forum folder.
For more information on the new options and to download the update please visit the http://www.s2h.co.uk/wwf/mods/latest-topics/ - Latest Topics page.

Is there an easy way to make this display the posts based on whatever the users credentials really are, rather than limiting it to guest?
|
Posted By: Scotty32
Date Posted: 09 February 2009 at 7:01pm
Well, this is based of the RSS feed which is limited to guests.
I can look into using the members permissions but I thought it would be more secure to keep it as is, besides you can simply view the New Posts page (Active Topics).

Many thanks to you Scotty :-)
I've only had my forums live since April 21st 2009 and this is the first mod I have personally carried out and not being too familiar with code etc, dealt with it no problem.
I followed the easy instructions to the letter and now have a working latest posts mod, first time, no troubles!
Very pleased, cheers

Hello,
I installed latest posts mod on a front page of my site here (at the bottom of page): http://casinoipoker.com/
The mod works OK, but I have a small problem, the mod does not display correctly some Croatian characters in text. The front page has correct code page tags configured and other text on page is ok, also the WWF it self displays these characters ok, but the mod does not.
Scotty can you help?

You will need to set your homepage to use the same encoding as WWF is using, to do this change the following:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1250"> |
to this:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> |

Scotty will be better placed to answer this question, but it may be either a glitch on the systems, or as he will explain himself, it is probably meaning that an upgrade of the Latest Topics Mod may need doing. I'm only guessing, but I cannot see why the latest topics mod, would affect the time much, apart from maybe if your forum has a lot of topics being constantly added

Hi fabrixnet, I am sorry I do not understand your question.
If you mean can you show more than 10 posts. you can set this in the "includes/" file.
If you mean does it only show new topics. The answer is no, it will show
the last 10 topics to receive a post, whether it is the first post or a
reply.
The topic will only show once, rather than for each 'last post'.

If you want to display the topics ordered by the start date of the topics, then it would not take much to alter it to work in this way.
I can post the sample code later if this is what you want to do.

Version 10 already includes an option to list the Latest Posts on the home page of your forum.
It should be enabled by default if not you can enabled it from the admin area of your forum.

What if we want it on our home page - and not the forum's own front page? For example: http://theamcforum.com the index page used to show topics (now it's just the coming up events on our calendar). Since it's not part of the forum, we embedded code from a kind member here. I assume you aren't referring to the same thing??

The ASP code to include forum posts on another page or web site is located in the Web Wiz Forums Extras folder that comes with web wiz forums.

I have the latest posts there but want to put it back to latest topics like we had before with the mod Bruce. Currently we just see one popular topic would swamp the list and clicking it goes to the OP rather than the latest post.

As SunnySteve points out, my mod works differently to the one included with WebWizForums V10. This one will only display a topic once, rather than several times if the last posts were concentrated on one topic
Also (I haven't tested it properly yet so cannot confirm) but I am not sure that the default 'Latest Posts' displays topics based on Permissions (the one in the Extras folder of V9 only worked on the RSS feed, which is basically Guest permissions only). This one how ever will display all posts that the visitor has permissions to see, and hides posts that they do not have permissions to see.
I will look more closely at what the default V10 'latest posts' feature offers and will report back (unless Bruce beats me too it). I was concerned that there may not be any interest in this mod as one is included with the forum, how ever if there are enough differences to warrant it (and of course demand) I will upgrade it to V10.
As for Bill3's original post - The mod as not been tested on V10, so I can not confirm that it will work. How ever I currently have it running on the home page of website( http://www.s2h.co.uk/" rel="nofollow - S2H.co.uk ) and it seems to be working fine with V10. So you should be able to continue to use this mod outside of the forum its self.
If you want to see a comparison between this modification and the default forum one you can see my http://www.s2h.co.uk/forum/" rel="nofollow - support forum here , just look at that a long side the home page.
For anyone else who wishes to use this mod over the default forum one then please post here or on my http://www.s2h.co.uk/forum/" rel="nofollow - support forum so I can work out the demand for it.

hey scotty32 add us to the list of those wanting to see a topic just one time since at times we have machine-gun discussions on a hot topic, and it could end up the whole "most recent 10" be all the same topic at times. Maybe that could be an option for one or the other. "Click this box if you want a topic displayed just one time in the most recent posts, otherwise it will take them in order" Maybe if it's not already so, make the number of "most recent" be selectable as well - 5, 7, 10 OK, maybe not...........

My mod already let's you pick how many topics you wish to display.
It is in the file you include on your homepage.
It will show half as many for mobile uses.

I have now updated this modification to support V10.03.
It will display SEO Friendly links based on your settings, just as the rest of the forum does for a more consistent linking scheme.
You can download both V9.x and V10.x from the http://www.s2h.co.uk/wwf/mods/latest-topics/" rel="nofollow - Latest Topics page of my website.

Hi Scotty32.
I would like to request if it's possible for you to modify your mod, to display the latest topic AND the short description (maybe first 50 words) of the topics as well. Thank you so much
