So far, so good...
I can collect the IP of the remote computer that's clicking on my pay-per-click ads (at least I think it's the remote computer, and not the IP of the server hosting my ads). I'll check that out.
Then I can do a Whois on DNSStuff.com to see where it came from.
Is there code that can do the Whois immediately, so I can store the location of the remote computer directly- rather than having to store the IP, and do it manually?
Obviously, I'm attempting to see if the PPC guys are padding my clicks. $

We use MaxMinds GeoIP database to get the location of the user from their IP address.

I think they do a free version, but it's certainly the best and most frequently updated database and is used by many large companies.

Most software like HideIP use anonymous proxy servers to hide the persons real IP address.

MaxMinds GeoIP is updated monthly so is very good at spotting people using anonymous proxy servers, satellite connections, as well as which country the person is from.

It's never going to be 100% beceuae IP's change so often but have found that it is pretty reliable and has dropped the number of fraudulent transactikns we have from around 20 to 50 a month down to around 5.

The google api supports going through proxy servers as well.
There's several sites that do a traceroute interfaced with google maps to visually show your packet routing. Some of them also can show proxy routing.
