Subject: HELP! with Modding Issues Moving from v8.5 to v9.5

I have recently upgraded my forum to v9.5.1.  I like the improvements that come with the new version but I am left with a few problems as a result of the change.

I used to have a webmaster helping on the forum.  He did some customized changes to the codes within v8.  He is no longer around to help me with this and some of the changes which he made have not carried through to the new version.

Several of the customized changes that functioned using v8 are very important to the site.  It is an anonymous site and privacy is crucial to the members.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has experience of dealing with these sorts of coding changes and feels they can help reinstate any of the features listed below.

1) The members are required to provide their real names and some other personal details on registration.  These details are now visible to anyone who visits the member profiles.  The customized changes I had for v8 meant that these personal details were only visible to the admin group.

2)  The customized changes I had for v8 included a couple of additional required fields appearing in the registration page and another couple of the fields being renamed for specific purposes.  I would like to reinstate these changes as they are crucial for validating that members registering really are entitled to join the site and to keep the site secure.

3)  Members are able to edit the details on their profile after their account has been verified, which was not the case in v8.  Only the admin group could do this.  Again this is for security reasons.

4)  Ordinary members are able to sign in to the forum anonymously.  This is something my former webmaster changed for v8 so that anonymous access was only an option for the admin group therefore removing the second field as an option when they login.  I would like to reinstate this restriction.

5)  The moderators are now able to see against each post the IP address where the post was made from.  In v8 this was only visible to the admin group.   I would like to reinstate this restriction.

6)  More than one person seems to be able to log in and use the same user account at any one time (although that username only shows up once on the active users list).  Before, in v8, if a second person tried to log in to a user account, the first person would be kicked off, and I would like to go back to this.  I don’t know whether this is a customized change that has been dropped by v9.5.1 or if this is a something users of v9.5.1have experienced for themselves.

So if there is someone out there who thinks they can help me sort out some of these issues, I would love to hear from you and to hear what you think you might want to charge for doing so.

Any advice gratefully received.

Did you keep the backups of all the version 8 files? If so, that could be helpful to making the changes

Yes I have got a back up but I don't know which files are the relevant ones.

I'm not a very techy person!

By the way I have v8 and v9.5.1 running simultaneously and reading from the same database, if that helps.

I have tried looking at the language files but to no success.

If I can't get the modifications reinstated then I won't be able to use v9.5.1 as the confidentiality and security aspects are fundamental to the site.  I just can't allow the real names of members to anyone outside the admin group.

I appreciate that you need to maintain confidentiality as we work in that field anyway with our own trade. We may be able to help, but it depends on what changes need implementing. It sounds like a reasonably large task Geek

Unfortunately, it is imperative that the Real Names does not show otherwise my membership will leave in droves. Therefore if unable to resolve the issue - I will have no choice but to stay on v8.
