Topic: Issue with PM batch-delete

Subject: Issue with PM batch-delete
Date Posted: 01 September 2008 at 11:40pm
Forum members have Private Messages that are older than 1 year, and also have messages that are just one week old. When selecting to batch-delete PM's older than 4 or 6 months from the Admin area, ALL PM's get deleted, new and old, even the ones that were sent just today.

What is causing this? No database modification has been done at all... and the code is the same excluding the CSS/header/footer include files.

The way Private Messages are batched deleted has not been changed for around 5 years so batch delete PM tools should be pretty solid.

It could be that you have a corrupted file. Try reuploading the original files again.

I have the same problems for quite some time.
Didin't get any reply to my question (http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=24514&PID=128060#128060) and uploading new files didn't' helped so since then i delete old PM manually (opening the SQL database) which is a pain Confused
I wish to have this thing sorted

The tool has not changed for many years and can not replicate the issue in the lab, so to try and identify this isuse would need to have allot more details such as:-

1. Version you are using
2. Database type you are using
3. Step by step intructions on replicating this

I wish i can help .. but i can't;
i'm using currently v9.5 (sql 2000) but this is what happened with previous versions as well.
I tried this each time the new version was released but without a success; always the same thing .. all PM are gone.
Since it is not a minor issue (once i try it i need to bring back PM from the backup) i didn't tested this too many times.

Nothing special with steps either; enter admin pages, select batch delete PM, select a period and click delete. Never got any server error .. only that all PM are deleted.

MY server is hosted in Croatia; not sure if this can be an issue.

If there are some modification of the code i can try to help detecting the problem i would gladly do that but i can't try this too many times (live server)

Thanks for the extra info will try and replicate this.

It could be a date issue with the server being in Croatia. I take it though that Croatia use the same date settings as the UK day/month/year?

I currently use Version 9.51, and have previously used 9.50 with the same issue. I use Microsoft SQL 2000 as the database server.

The issue seems to have been resolved after following Bruce's advise of re-uploading the files. I re-uploaded the following files "individually":
  • admin_common.asp
  • admin_batch_delete.pm.asp
  • admin_batch_delete.pm_form.asp

To replicate the issue, all you need is do the normal procedure of going into the admin area and clicking on batch-delete PM's. Then select from the drop-down of deleteing either 6-months old messages or 4-months old. This then deletes ALL messages, including those that are newer than 6-months / 4-months.

kiklop, have you tried also updating the files iSec mentioned to the latest 9.51 version and see if that solves the issue?

That was my thought as well since we certainly have issues with local variables in other applications as well. The way we use the date is actually day.month.year (periods instead of slash) but i'm not sure if this may cause such problems.

One possibility that i thought about is to modify the code and comment the execute command and display the actual sql that is performing but i didn't wanted to screw up things since i'm not really good at these things :(

btw, i didn't understand the last message from iSec if uploading the files has helped him but i can confirm that i did that several times without any success

thank you !
