Subject: 9.06 to 9.51 upgrade questions

I'm preparing to upgrade our forums running on IIS 5 and MS SQL 2000 from 9.06 to 9.51 and I have some questions I don't find the answers to in my research.

While I see documentation on installing the SQL version, I'm not seeing specific upgrade documentation.  Am I missing something?

We have implemented a licensed version of Persits ASPupload and need to maintain this functionality through the upgrade.

Do I just overload all the files from 9.51 upgrade zip over the working files in my 9.06 /forum directory?

Is there any upgrade to the database?  It appears not however I did find recommendation to running this tool:  http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=26180 - http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=26180 .

Please advise.

Database changes are only made for major releases (eg. 8.x to 9.x) minor version updates just require that you overwrite the files and images with those from the latest version.

If you have made modifications then you may want to read the version history file that comes with the forum download to see what files have been changed.

The optimisation tool that you link to can help with larger forums, however if you want to really improve performance you need to upgrade your database from SQL Server 2000 to 2005 or 2008. Then download the version which is specific to SQL Server 2005/2008 as this has advanced server side paging which improves performance by a massive amount on larger forums.

I copied all the 9.51 files (except the Database folder) over the 9.06 files.  The forum home page loaded fine, but when I clicked to look at a forum topic, I kept getting the error below.  The message said I only had to copy the 9.51 files in to upgrade.  Please advise.

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01f4'

Variable is undefined: 'blnSqlSvrAdvPaging'

You are getting this error because you did not use the database/database_connection.asp file from the latest version.

You need to upgrade all the changed files including those in the database folder.
