The first time you view our new version 9.5 forum,  the subforums appear correctly. However, if you reply to a message, the subforum appears twice. See screen shot below.

Has anyone else ever seen this and does anybody know a cure?

I haven't seen this before. How long have you had this issue? I'm only guessing, that perhaps you recently upgraded the forum, and if so, what version were you using before?

No upgrade. The forum was installed with 9.5 back in August. Only recently went public. If you view it the first time at:
http://www.msspeech-forum.com - http://www.msspeech-forum.com

then post a message you should see the double sub forum.

I joined up but I think I posted in a wrong topic since the posts are pending approval, hence cannot see what you see. Perhaps others will have a view on this that sorts the issue

Thanks, I see you registered but cannot see where you posted? Try clicking on the sub forum called, " http://www.msspeech-forum.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=18 - Microphones and Sound Input (CLICK to see all sub forums) " and try posting a response to Wireless. Then shut down the forum and log back to the main fourm?.

The cause has been narrowed down. If you view the http://www.MSSpeech-Forum.com - MSSpeech-Forum main page and you are not logged in the display looks correct. If you logon, the first two sub-forums appear twice.

I'd appreciate it if you confirm this?

Thanks,
Marty Markoe

Hi Marty

I logged in
I logged out
I logged in
I logged out

Each time I could not duplicate the error. I am using Firefox if that narrows it down

I had this problem and it actually only applies to you viewing the forum. Try logging in using another username and you won't get this problem.

Go to Admin> Create Member Permissions (and select your own username seing double) > Delete (bin image) the doubled forums.

And you're done; it doesn't stop you posting or viewing posts there, but for some reason I believe that the admin sees things a little skew-wiff and this definitely fixes the problem. Obviously, I am not sure what it is doing in the underlying database but it does work!

pbanks,

Thanks. The problem seemed to start when I rearranged, added. deleted and edited the forums/sub-forums.

The bin image did not show twice for my non-admin  logon or one of my moderator's logon. I did delete the permissions and it seems to display correctly and be able to post correctly even though all the permissions are gone.

If we have any further trouble I'll delete the users and have them re-register.

Thanks,
Marty

Did you think to re-synchronise the topics?

Not only did I not think to re-synchronize the topics, I have no idea how to? Tongue

You need to ensure that your forums have the correct order numbers in the admin area.

If you still have an issue then often it is coursed by duplicate permissions in the database. If you edit the forum permissions and re-submit the page it will reset the permissions stored in the database.

Thank you. I think you hit the nail on the head with this. When the permissions for my regular user (not super administrator) were edited, double sub forums no longer appeared.

Thanks again.
