Bruce,

Any ideas on why my forum has suddenly dropped back to the free edition?

For no reason whatsoever, my forums downgraded itself!

This may have happened when the software checked against the license server that the registration is not valid.

If you did not apply the Premium Edition registration key correctly, or attempted to install a single instance key on multiple instances then this may have coursed the issue.

Mine keeps doing that also.  It reverts to free edition, I apply the key and it is fine for a while and then it reverts again.  Single instance and key correctly applied.

If you install another instance (eg the Free Express Edition) on the same site then the global variables can interfere with each other which can make it look like the registration key is not applied.

If you are running multiple instances on one site then you need to edit the includes/setup_options_inc.asp file and give each forum different application variable prefixes.

Bruce, I hadn't installed any other instances, locally or live.

I haven't touched my forum's files for a while now.  All I did was upgraded to 9.53 a couple of weeks back.  Then when I visited my forum on the 18th, it had downgraded to the free version.

I don't know the full history of your installation, server setup, test installation, upgrades, etc. but you should try putting back in your Premium Edition registration key again.

Yeah, I put the key in, when I noticed it had downgraded - it's now ok, but wondering if it will do this again...

FYI - I only have the live installation and a test installation at home (localhost).  I also upgrade probably about a week after a new version is available.  It's running on a Windows 2003 server, with an MS SQL backend.

If you need anymore info, please let me know.

Mine downgraded again over night.  It accepts the key and is fine for a while but eventually downgrades again.  I updated from 9.08 to 9.53 and that is when the problem started.

Hmm.  Now a new rub.  I just attempted to apply the key and got this message...

Error The Premium Edition License Key has not been applied

This license key has already been activated more than the permitted number of times.

Same happening to me and I *think* I know what may be causing it.

The premium license key is registered to a single domain, www.mywebsite.com for example. If you access the forum without the www as I have mine setup for, registration checking kicks in and knocks you down to a trial version.

Does yours have other domains or domains without www set up in IIS? Not an ideal situation but understandable if I'm right.

The issue is coursed by the update check in the admin area with the Premium Bradn-Free Edition.

It is being worked on for the next release for now hold off on using the check for update option or contact support for an updated file.

Thank you Bruce, I did click on the 'check for update' link earlier. I'll stay well away for now!

So www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com are considered two different instances of the same forum?  What if you have more than one domain name point to the same website & forum?
