it would be very useful to have an option to send a single notification to the user when a thread gets multiple replies until the user visits the thread again rather than sending a notification every time there is a new post.

thanks.

The Coding suggests that people that sign up for that section to receive posts if someone has made  a reply back..  It would make no sense to try to figure out a single notification that someone would receive with the amount of posts that the person signed up for.  Plus the more E-mails someone gets means the greater the activity

perhaps i was not very clear in what i meant....

currently a user recieves an email every time a thread is replied to - they may have ten or more new e-mails notifying them of new posts to a single thread before even getting a chance to make a return visit.
this method sees notification emails much more likely to get deleted by the user, or perhaps even unsubscribe or leave the site rather than be bombarded by multiple notification emails...

it would be much neater to have one email notifying of a reply to a topic and then receive no more emails relating to that topic, even if more replies were posted, until the user re-visits the site.

i believe the single notification per thread is a common method used on other forum software - it would be useful to see it included in web wiz also.

You could try disabling email notifications for the forum, but since I never have used this particular notification method, I cannot say how many emails I would get either LOL

In e-mail lists, this is something called a "digest."  Instead of sending single e-mails for each reply, all the replies of the day or week get bundled up into one e-mail, and are mailed together.

Something like this could be done, but it would require setting up a scheduled job / cron job to run every day at a set time, plus appropriate code added to Web Wiz Forums.

thanks for the reply, but a digest isn't what i'm suggesting.

what i am suggesting is this;
there should still be an instant notification sent to the user when a thread is replied to,
however, they should not be notified of subsequent replies until they next visit the thread/forum.

this would stop the user from being bombarded with email notifications on a busy thread.

does that make sense?
