Hi Bruce,
Just wondered if you had any updates with the development of v10?
I'd like to expand my site with blogging etc, but not sure if v10 will fulfill my needs, or I should look at using NewsPad.
PS - If you'd like someone to alpha / beta test, I'd be happy to help...just drop me a PM.
Cheers,
Oli

Version 10 is still in development as the blogging tools are taking quite a while to develop.
NewsPad is an eNewsletter software for eNewsletters and mail campaigns and not really a blogging tool. If you want to use NewsPad as a blogging tool you maybe disappointed.

When I say blogging, I didn't really mean blogging...I don't know what I mean to be honest.
With the blogging in v10, do you have any plans for people to subscribe to them, and allow the blogs to be used a front page for a site?
For example, at the moment I just run a forum, with no front page to my site. I'm toying with the idea of using NewsPad as both the front page to my site (latest news etc), and obviously an eNewsletter as well. However, if v10 allows me to have blog posts as a main page, I may wait for it to be completed.
I know many people have asked, and it's difficult to answer, but do you have any rough SLA on a beta release of v10? I'm interested to see what the features offer, and how they work, to allow me to decide on which route to take my site down.
Cheers!

For what you want it sounds like you would be better off using NewsPad as the blogging tools would be like a subset to the forums with members able to create their own blogs available through there forum profiles.
There is no ETA on when version 10 will be finished as the high number of support questions that come in leave only a few hours spare to get any development work done, which throws any schedule out the window.

Hmm, not sure now. I suppose I could use my blog from the forum, as the main page of the site, which would give me the same as using NewsPad.
Not sure what do to now.
EDIT - Any discount off NewsPad for a long term WWF user (since 2002, and paid since July 2007), to help me sway my decision ?

From the sounds of what you are doing it sounds like you are looking for more of an online news page that users can subscribe to. This is exactly what NewsPad is for.
Discounts unless offered to all are not really discussed on public forums as I am sure you can understand, so best of contacting accounts.

If you would like to display news on your homepage then I could provide you with a portal styled page which would list all topics in a forum (eg you select a News Forum which you will be posting in)
Your members could subscribe via the built-in RSS and "Watch This Topic".
If your interested send me a PM.

Hey, Scotty that sounds interesting ... Can you expand on this (is it an add-on)?

Its simply a page which shows the latest topics from one forum (that the admin pics) - an example of the layout is on http://www.s2h.co.uk/ - my homepage
Since I've passed this on to two people now - I may consider releasing it as a Mod.

Hi Scotty, a release of the portal as a mod would be good - I'm just looking at using it now, and because if references the forum header, all the images are broken etc. Not sure if there's a way round it, other than creating a copy of the header just for the portal, and changing the image locations etc.

The solution is to set absolute paths for the skin(s).
eg instead of "forum_images/" enter "/forum/forum_images/"
Same will be needed for the CSS part of the skin(s) too.

Brilliant, cheers!
As a note, the Latest Topics mod throws up this error;
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01f4' Variable is undefined: 'strTxtS2HLTTitleDate' /forum/includes/s2h_latest-topics.asp, line 79
This line was missing from the language file;
Const strTxtS2HLTTitleDate = "Date"

I have just downloaded the mod from my site, and that line is actually in the Language file.
Did you use the Language file from another mod? As that one may not be up to date.
If so could you let me know which one so I can update it?

a suggestion for V10:
The number of PM's and the upload limit for different member groups should be customizable. Like the admins should not have any limit.

I would like to see that as well.
Though Admins (aleast the Main admin) do not have a limit on Private Messages.

One more suggestion for v10.
After a post or thread is moved from one forum to another, the 'resynchronize topic and post count' should be automatic. Every time a moderator moves the threads, the admin has to login to the backend to resynchronize the topic and post count.

It is done automatically however on slower systems, particularly Access the database doesn't update in time before the recsync occurs. A delay has been built in but even that doesn't always work.

I am using the latest version with sql 2005 on a pretty fast server. But it doesn't seem to happen automatically.

Agree - in our case, we moderators need unlimited messages, there's only 6 of us, and we get SO MANY PMs it is difficult to keep things trimmed, while we find we need to limit the member PMs as some folks have no house-keeping abilities at all (I suspect their front room also looks like the county landfill) So if it could be set by group, or at least moderator group, etc.

Version 10 already has a new option added that you can set the default to delete the oldest PM if the inbox is full.
This way you don't need to keep clearing out your PM inbox and will still receive the PM, and at the same time still retain the limits so your database doesn't get over full with old PM's.

Another suggestion (unless there's something for it already) would be an option to allow certain members to have bigger signitures and avatars than others.

Suggestions should be posted in the suggestions forum, otherwise they will more likely be missed.

Yes but that way the admins/mods can lose PM's which are useful or need to be preserved for reference.

Then post you suggestion in the suggestion forum so that it can be looked at when looking through for new features to add.
