Hi Bruce and all...

I know I haven't posted in a while though I read every day. I have a question that has been bugging me and some others I know for a while.

I have tried to backup and reinstall the forum database using MS DTS (SQL Data Transformation Service)  many times and it always fails on the indexes. I'm not sure if anyone has found a work around for this and thought I would raise the question.

BUT

My main question is, has anyone found a way to move a forum database from one SQL server to another without errors? Basically, I am consolidating my hosting accounts to a dedicated environment and I would really like to move the forums, data, posts and members transparently. If there is a solution such as this, it could also be used to "mirror" the data on a local server which is an issue I have been unable to resolve.

Anyone have any ideas???

Have you tried the import tools for the DataBase?  I have not had a problem with it... as always I know you have made a backup... try to make a backup without running any other programs..  as you make that Backup of the Data Base you should be able to you the import tool to keep all the database in tact..

To move the SQL Server database to a new server keeping the schema intact you can either:-

1. Make a full backup of the database (a .bak file) then restore the database on a the new server

2. Detach the database from SQL Server then move the .mdf and .ldf files to the new SQL Server where you reattach the database.

OR, purchase webwiz hosting, give them the admin id and password for the current/old SQL setup, and buy Bruce a beer and they will move it.
Our forum was moved over seamlessly in minutes, thanks to the crew at webwiz hosting!

Same as that - Superb service.

Had crappy old Access upgraded to SQL and an old version of WWF upgraded to the latest version at the same time.
Great value for money & Service Clap
