If you trying to promote your site by paying for submissions then don't bother. There are varied ways of adding your site and one of the easiest is to add or URL to google. Sign up for a free account with them and add your site to their submission that way

Also do the same on excite and lycos - there are other submission engines that dont charge and it is very much a case of taking a bit of time to do it

Generally SEO's tend to look at the 3 major search engines - Google, Yahoo, MSN/Live (or what ever name its called today)

Search engines these days tend not to like auto submission software and prefer to detact your site naturally via links from other websites.

So the best way to get your site indexed is to get links into your website from others (it also will help your rankings too)

You can also create a Sitemap to help them find all of your pages and submit it using the top 3 search engines webmaster tools: (click links for each)

http://www.google.co.uk/sitemaps - Google Sitemaps - Requires a Google account (Gmail or what ever)
https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ - Yahoo! Site Explorer - Requires a Yahoo account (you@yahoo.com)
http://webmaster.live.com/ - Live Search Webmaster Center - Requires an MSN/Live account (Hotmail or what ever)

Each of these websites provide other tools you can use to help your website - search as pages indexed, links in, crawl errors and others.

Also on most search engines you can search for the following:

site:www.yourdomain.com

To find out if your website is already listed - as if you are submitting your website while already listed, the search engines wont like that very much.

For the topest SE like Google, yahoo , live etc no need to submit. Will automatically their bot will find you. Just make the site UP and  wait for few weeks

Search engine submission is a waste of time. If you have backlinks, they will find you. If you dont have any backlinks, they wont rank you anywhere, even if you submit. SO just build backlinks, thats it.

Auto submission to directories is another waste of time. Select some niche directories and take time to manually submit to them.

Better submit your site on directories manually. While in search engine it's not advisable to submit your site, let them find your site by linking your site on other site.

as other have said already stay away from anything that contains the word "automate". It will only cause problems :)

I am always in favor of submitting manually. There are many auto submission software available. But If you are looking for a result, go for manual submission. moreover, search engines and directories does not like auto submission..
