Hi,

I'm in desperate need for your help. You'll understand why in a few moments.

I don't know exactly which version of the forum I have installed on my server; the archives are mostly from May, 2006. I guess it's 8 point something. I've been using webwizforum for a long, long time as you can see.

On Firefox, the statistics are:
936.840 messages in 4.275 threads in 32 forums
6.689 Members

And on IE:
434.199 messages in 3.563 threads in 30 forums
6.689 members

I don't know why the difference between browsers, but that's not the problem.

The problem is... the forum is slow. Very, very slow. And it's been presenting error messages all the time. And the messages differ all the time. Sometimes it's

Server Error in Forum Application

An error has occured while writing to the database.

Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_getUserData()_update_last_visit

File Name:- functions_login.asp

Error details:-

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

Timeout expired

And sometimes it's:

Server Error in Forum Application

An error has occured while writing to the database.

Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_save_new_post_data

File Name:- new_post.asp

Error details:-

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

Timeout expired

Or:

Server Error in Forum Application

An error has occured while writing to the database.

Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_loginUser()_update_USR_Code

File Name:- functions_login.asp

Error details:-

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

Timeout expired

Anyway...

Sometimes, my users can't log in, sometimes they can't post new messages, sometimes they can't even READ the forum.

This has been going on for months and months now. And don't know what to do.

Usually, when I restarted the server, everything was fine for a while. But now that's not working anymore.

The forum is a very important part of my website (www.cinemaemcena.com.br) and, well, I'm lost. And I'll start losing users soon.

Help, please. With sugar on top.

I can only tell you that you are on Web Wiz Forums ver. 8.04 - After looking at your forums.

Sorry, that's me out :(

Database timeout errors like these are very rare with the SQL Server version and usually points to server and/or network issues with either overloaded SQL Server or slow network connection issues. You should contact your host about these issues.

If you use SQL Server 2005 or 2008 you should certainly upgrade to the latest 9.54 release which would improve performance immensely for larger SQL Server forums.

Bruce, the thing is: years ago, after buying the "no-ads" version of wwf, I made the mistake of installing a mod. I don't remember its name anymore (Venk? Wenk?). Long after I'd done it, webwiz informed it was "banning" it from this forum. But it was too late, considering I had already installed it.

Now... I don't know how to "undone" it so I can upgrade to 9.54.

Is there anyway I could install 9.54 from scratch and then import my list of members and topics or something like that? If not, is there anyway someone could guide me on how to install this mod? Pretty please with sugar on top?

As long as you remove the new database fields that this mod created you will be able to upgrade to 9.54, as it did not comply with mod rules and place MOD infont of any database changes coursing issues with upgrades.

Bruce, how do I know which new fields were created?

The only way to know would be to either search through the version 8 forums or have a look at the mod you used and see what fields it created.

Well, considering I'm really not tech-savvy, I guess... I'm screwed then. :(

Was it the Venky megamod ?

If so, I saved the removal instructions:

=============================================================================

< ="-" ="text/; =utf-8">< name="ProgId" ="Word.">< name="Generator" ="Microsoft Word 10">< name="Originator" ="Microsoft Word 10">

megaMOD web page was closed on 15.11.2006. and only thing left is instructions for removing megaMOD.

Here you can find out how to completely remove megaMOD from your forum.

So let's start:
(you will need a original wwf zip archive whit original files, available at webwiz.net)

First BACK UP your database! Also backup your forum files.
Then you will have to overwrite edited megaMOD files whit original files, you can do that by uploading all files from archive except folder 'database/' or upload file one by one from list, and here is the list of that files:
1) functions/functions_common.asp
2) functions/functions_upload.asp
3) includes/admin_index_inc.asp
4) includes/CAPTCHA_form_inc.asp
5) includes/default_javascript.js
6) includes/emoticons_inc.asp
7) includes/header.asp
8) includes/message_form_inc.asp
9) includes/navigation_buttons_inc.asp
10) includes/non_RTE_quick_reply_toolbar_inc.asp
11) includes/quick_reply_form_inc.asp
12) includes/RTE_quick_reply_toolbar_inc.asp
13) includes/RTE_toolbar_inc.asp
14) includes/select_countries_list.asp
15) active_topics.asp
16) active_users.asp
17) admin_add_member.asp
18) admin_change_username.asp
19) admin_common.asp
20) admin_find_user.asp
21) admin_menu.asp
22) admin_upload_configure.asp
23) calendar.asp
24) calendar_week.asp
25) common.asp
26) default.asp
27) delete_member.asp
28) delete_post.asp
29) delete_topic.asp
30) edit_post.asp
31) edit_post_form.asp
32) forum_posts.asp
33) forum_topics.asp
34) hide_post.asp
35) insufficient_permission.asp
36) log_off_user.asp
37) login_user.asp
38) login_user_test.asp
39) member_control_panel.asp
40) member_profile.asp
41) members.asp
42) new_poll_form.asp
43) new_post.asp
44) new_reply_form.asp
45) new_topic_form.asp
46) non_RTE_upload_files.asp
47) non_RTE_upload_images.asp
48) not_posted.asp
49) pm_buddy_list.asp
50) pm_inbox.asp
51) pm_message.asp
52) pm_new_message.asp
53) pm_new_message_form.asp
54) pm_outbox.asp
55) pre_approved_topics.asp
56) register.asp
57) register_confirm.asp
58) registration_rules.asp
59) RTE_javascript.asp
60) RTE_popup_adv_image.asp
61) RTE_popup_file_atch.asp
62) search_form.asp
63) search_results_posts.asp
64) search_results_topics.asp
65) show_post.asp
66) upload_avatars.asp

Now you will have to delete all new files that were added by megaMOD, (you must do this in both cases from above) here is the list:
1) css_styles/megaMOD_style.css
2) forum_images/flags/*.* (all files in 'flags' folder)
3) forum_images/edit.gif
4) forum_images/F_connect.gif
5) forum_images/F_connect_end.gif
6) forum_images/icon_buddy.gif
7) forum_images/icon_email.gif
8) forum_images/icon_PM.gif
9) forum_images/icon_profile.gif
10) forum_images/icon_search.gif
11) forum_images/image_gallery.gif
12) forum_images/image_folder.png
13) forum_images/jump_down.gif
14) forum_images/jump_up.gif
15) forum_images/no_image.gif
16) forum_images/no_image.png
17) forum_images/off.gif
18) forum_images/on.gif
19) forum_images/rate_bg.gif
20) forum_images/rate_top.gif
21) forum_images/reputation_highpos.gif
22) forum_images/reputation_pos.gif
23) forum_images/save.gif
24) forum_images/skins.gif
25) forum_images/thanks_icon.gif
26) functions/functions_gallery.asp
27) includes/gallery_javascript.js
28) includes/MODs_by_Venky.asp
29) includes/skin_file.asp
30) language_files/megaMOD_language_inc.asp
31) uploads/gallery/*.* (all files in 'gallery' folder - those files are uploaded images)
32) admin_forum_skins.asp
33) admin_MODs_by_Venky.asp
34) ajax.asp
35) ajax.js
36) aspcaptcha.asp
37) clsField.asp
38) clsUpload.asp
39) edit_gallery.asp
40) edit_image.asp
41) get_image.asp
42) image_gallery.asp
43) member_thanks.asp
44) READ ME!.txt
45) reputation.asp
46) show_gallery.asp

Last is database clean up, so if you have these things in database, you will have to delete them manually. Here is the list of all changes made to database:
1) Delete COLUMN Reputation IN table tblAuthor
2) Delete COLUMN No_of_topic IN table tblAuthor
3) Delete COLUMN Gender IN table tblAuthor
4) Delete COLUMN Skin_ID IN table tblAuthor
5) Delete COLUMN Most_users_online IN table tblConfiguration
6) Delete COLUMN Most_guests_online IN table tblConfiguration
7) Delete COLUMN Last_post_date IN table tblConfiguration
8) Delete COLUMN Description IN table tblTopic
9) Delete TABLE tblThanks
10) Delete TABLE tblSkins
11) Delete TABLE tblImages
12) Delete TABLE tblCatImages
13) Delete TABLE tblImages
14) Delete TABLE tblImages
15) Delete TABLE tblImages

Now you should have a clean version of wwf on your forum running. If you will have some problems after this, you can delete all files except 'database' folder, and then copy all files from wwf zip archive.
