You could try http://www.iportalx.net/ - Maddogs IportalX , it uses WebWizForums, though its V7 and not V9.

It uses v7, but the filters and stuff have been updated to prevent XSS hacks. I do plan on upgrading to WWF v9+ at some point but its a lot of work that i can't seem to find time for.

Its also free Smile

I have hidden the offending post MadDog that you replied to - since it is clearly libellious if not at least offensive to your site, since there is no reason whatsoever that this user should have posted their comments

Excuse the TOTALLY TOTALLY stupid basic simple question:
What is a portal, and why?
What do they accomplish? Who would use one and why?
To me a portal is how the folks on stargate get around so much.

A web "portal" is mainly a system that offers a bunch of intergraded features such as a Message Board, Image Galleries, Blogs, Site News, Guestbooks, etc.

So a portal isn't really "something" it's more a collection of things on a site.
No big deal, nothing special.
You can readily get aLL of those tools for free and add them to a site.
In fact, one of my personal sites my son added an image gallery and a blog for me, the host provides forums for free and a friend wrote an ASP-based guestbook. So I've got everything a "portal" would be equipped with.
I keep seeing the "portal" word tossed around as if it's something new, magic and wonderful. Sounds to me like a collection of stuff that's been around for years, but it's all in one place.
Doesn't really match the old-skool definition of portal, in my book.
Thanks for the explanation

A good portal doesn't just combine a bunch of stuff together and call it good. A good portal has all the features under the same hood. Meaning everything intergrades together nicely, fits into the site design, and members can interact with the features without having to sign up for each section. Not as easy as you think. Anyone can download a bunch of stuff apps and link them together.
