What is the purpose of having a member in your own buddy list? What capabilities does this add? Or not have when not in buddy list?

I think it just makes it easier to send private messages to your 'buddies'.

In the back-end of WebWizForums it is also connected to the "Ignore List", which blocks users from messaging you.

So I guess the buddy list was added due to the relative ease of adding as it was pretty much already built thanks to the Block list.
