from INSIDE the files?
Reason - I've got a mess at home. I've gotten backups and original files mixed up and undocumented.
I've got some early and later backups, as well as a couple of folders with original files that  downloaded for testing.
I was wondering if there is a specific file or files out of all the forum files I can use to determine a version number, major and minor without running the forum files.
I mean look at the raw files sitting on my CDs and see what is what?
Thanks.

You can check the file ncludes/version_inc.asp (around line 52) to determine the version number.

Latest versions have a tool in the admin area for checking which version you are running and also if there are any new updates available.

Thanks - but this is basically backups from months ago, not running, so I need to "open a file" and look at text inside the file, much like I would open a word document to see what's inside.
Was hoping the version was literally typed into each file in the "comments" such as the copyright area, etc.

I need to compare the files actually running on our forum to some files I have on CDs at home to see what changes I've made in preparation for an upgrade from 9.0xx to 9.5xx.
I've got some mods in place, not to mention CSS changes for colour and styles and want to be sure I'm comparing the SAME version of files so that changes or DIFFERENCES I see are those I put in, not due to version differences.
Let's just say I'm a packrat and don't keep a tidy computer drive! LOL.
