You replace the files and images in your old version with those from the latest release, keeping your existing database.

You will also need to edit the file 'database/database_connection.asp' to put back in your database connection details.

This download is only for premium editions only. If people have forum software hosted by you (within their packages), how do they get this, or is it pre-installed on the servers anyway?

The new SEO features are only available on the Premium Edition and for those who have a hosted service with us.

Those who have a paid license can download the Web Wiz URL Rewrite tool for those with hosted solutions with us you will need to fill out a support ticket to have your forum updated to the latest release which will include having the Web Wiz URL Rewrite tool installed for you.

The Web Wiz URL Rewrite tool does require that ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Full or Microsoft URL Rewrite for IIS7 is installed on the server. Our Windows Server 2008 Hosting Packages do have ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Full installed.

The SEO features seem great - but there should be an option to turn it on or off (for Premium Users), since I would prefer on some of my forums to keep the links the same as they were in previous versions.

It appears the only way I can turn the "&title=thread-name" off is to downgrade to the free version - odd Confused (or edit the forum)

Bruce, I don't know if you've answered this but can you please put together an exact process for upgrading 9.5x to the latest version?

I'm currently running 9.54. I would like to upgrade to 9.56 which includes the REWRITE implementation.

Please also specify the ISAPI component needed. You should have an upgrade area on the site. Do I also need to upgrade my database as well? Please clarify clear upgrade instructions and the associative depended components that we would need complete this upgrade.

Thanks!

You do not need to run any upgrade tools for sure since the database is the same

If you are running 9.54 just download 9.56a and then change your database_connection.asp file and put in your current settings there. Upload all files (except the uploads folder - otherwise you will overwrite any uploaded images) and then you should be good to go

Remember if you have added any additional mods (skin chooser, whose been here today - from Scotty) then these mods will be overwritten

If you have a current licence (not free version) then just send in a support request and verify the procedures, but you may do well to wait until Bruce verifys with you if the REWRITE permission will work on your servers

For the new URL Rewrite features to work you need to download the Web Wiz Forums URL Rewrite add-on which is available on the download page . Inside which you will find instructions on how to use it.

For it to work you need to have ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Full installed on the server. This is an ISAPI filter rather than a component and you need to have the paid rather than the free version installed.

ISAPI_rewrite 3 is available from the website below:-

http://www.helicontech.com/isapi_rewrite/" rel="nofollow - http://www.helicontech.com/isapi_rewrite/

Edit:-
The Web Wiz Forums URL Rewrite Tool now also works with Microsoft URL Rewrite for IIS7

As long as the server you are using has ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Full installed then yes you can use the new URL Rewriting with another web host. Contact your web host to findout if they have it installed.

If you are using your own server then go to the link below for more information on ISAPI_Rewrite:-

There are not separate downloads. You download the Free Express Edition from the download page, this will run as the full Premium Edition with your license registration key.

beforehand let me say the developer team really deserve appreciation for putting together this fine piece of software - functionality is thoughtfully designed and coded, the extent of comments makes it readable like a newspaper,  XHTML is almost perfectly realized, personalization will be a walkover ...

scanning through the code (mainly to see how to best integrate with an existent user base and website) i found a few glitches though - what would be the appropriate place to post them?

thank you for maintaining a forum software for classic ASP, since still many sites have not been (or cannot get) migrated to .NET - especially on IIS7 it is no longer possible to sync user logins between classic ASP and .NET in an elegant manner (at least i didn't find any so far)

There are two built in API's for integrating web wiz forums with your own login system.

If you use classic ASP just edit in notepad the file functions/functions_member_API.asp and follow the instructions in that file on how to integrate web wiz forums with your own login, logout, and registration system. It should only take 10 minutes at the most to setup.

If you are using ASP.NET, PHP, ColdFusions, etc. then there is a more powerful HTTP XML API built in that uses standard HTTP Post and Get calls and returns an XML result, which can then be parsed. This allows you to create your own intergration with web wiz forums. For a full list of methods and actions have a look at the page below:-

thanks for pointing me to the files (again: great how everything is documented) - syncing classicASP will indeed be more than easy.
you made me actually think about possibly using an XML response to sync a classicASP app to a .NET login on IIS7 (running not in classic mode so i don't have the AUTH_USER avilable from wildcard mapping)

Nice first post!  Might want to explain how you got the error Wink

If it begins with 'strTxt' then it's a variable from the language file and more than likely means that the person is running a set of language files which is for an older version and needs the new language language strings added to the end of one of the lanaguge_files.

Hi Bruce:

I see in the downloads area a file /download/download.asp?DL=wwfex2" rel="nofollow - Web Wiz Forums URL Rewrite  as a seperate download file.  Do I need to download and install this file to go with version 9.54?   Or do I just need to download and install the new version 9.56?   When is the download /download/download.asp?DL=wwfex2" rel="nofollow - Web Wiz Forums URL Rewrite
used instead of the full download?

Thanks again for integrating this wonderful feature.  Good job!

Thanks,

Wayne G.

Do I need to download the file /download/download.asp?DL=wwfex2" rel="nofollow - Web Wiz Forums URL Rewrite
 from the downloads area?

You would need to install the version 9.56 of above of Web Wiz Forums which has the URL Rewrite changes made to it.

Once you have downloaded and installed 9.56 you would need to download the Web Wiz Forums URL Rewrite tool.

This is available as a separate download as there ate two versions in the download, one for ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Full (Paid ISAPI Filter) and the other for the IIS 7 Rewrite Module (free IIS 7 Module) and you would need to select the one that your server supports.
