This may have something to do with me adjusting the avatar size in the default css file to 128 px square. However, the gap appears to be different for different members.

I am running 9.56a. This has been an issue for many versions though. Take a look at this post:

Interesting that the posts from "AKS1972" have a single-line gap, "MommyDavila" has a huge gap, while others have no gap at all. The gaps are consistent with each member (btra never has a gap).

Any ideas?

This is to do with the avatar size making the left hand column much longer that it should be.

Also, what you may notice is that AKS1972 whose avatar has a single gap is because his avatar is actually 128x128, whereas Eventer94 by example, their avatar is actually 150x100, and although scaled, it is still affecting the left hand column as Bruce says

Looking closer, it appears to be a Firefox html rendering problem.

Google Chrome doesn't do it.
IE7 doesn't do it.
IE8 doesn't do it.
Safari doesn't do it.

Firefox is over-rated, IMO. I'll go submit the problem to them.

Well checked - I always keep forgetting to check other browsers LOL
Mind you I like Firefox and yes by letting them know, it helps for their next release Thumbs Up

It is an issue with the layout. As I recall for some reason it took about 20 hours to get it lined up a s best as possible in all browsers for that part.
