When I log on as administrator how can I see that there are posts that need approval? Can it only be done by e mail notification? Under version 8 there was something at the top of the forum where I clicked and hidden posts became apparent TIA

Click the 'Moderator Tools' drop down near the top of the forum pages and the first option in the list is 'Moderated Topics' which will take you to a page displaying all topics that contain hidden posts.

The second issue you mention would be a duplicate permissions issue, with duplicate permissions in the permissions table of the database.

To fix this edit those forums in the admin area that you have duplicate permissions for and resubmit them, this will re-apply the permissions for that forum.
