Hi there.

Currently we have our forums integrated with our AD, but in setting that up the directions say to check intergrated on IIS security. Here are two issues that have come up with that:

1) In internet explorer the users must sign in using username@server(xxxx.com). While in Firefox you can just use the username. This is problematic since many of our users are not tech savy, and for our intranet, they just input their username (intranet is set to basic in IIS).

2) It doesn't remember username and password, everytime we log in we just re-enter the username and password (or just password in IE). I tried setting the settings to basic, which is how our intranet is, and it saves the username and password fine in Firefox, but in IE you once again cannot enter just username for the forums, nor can you enter username@server(xxx.com), instead the only way to get in is by doing domain\username which is even more confusing for our users. If it isn't entered in this format, the server spits out the following error:

The web wiz forums error is because the username is not available to ASP under the login technique that you are using and therefore the username string is blank.

The main issue here is how you login to your site using IE and Firefox when AD is enabled. I would suggest you may find it better to contact Microsoft support and ask them about how you can resolve your AD/IIS login issues as they would probably have a better idea how their software can best handle AD/IIS logins with various browsers.

Is there any reason why you must use basic authentication? Integrated Authentication should stop the prompt (providing you're in the same domain). I'm not sure how Firefox would deal with this, but i suspect at worst IE wouldn't prompt, and FF would ask for the same information.

I did write a document with step by step instructions to configure WWF for use in an AD environment. Part of it imports all user information from AD, but you can use it to simply set up WWF with the correct authentication (see here: http://forums.webwiz.net/mod-index-for-9x_topic24057_page2.html" rel="nofollow - http://forums.webwiz.net/mod-index-for-9x_topic24057_page2.html )

Edit:
NOTE: I've not updated it for the lastest version of WWF, but the code is documented.
