I wonder if I can get some opinions here?
I belong to a Web Wiz Forum and there has been some heated debate regarding a website address that one person has as his signature. This gentleman is a hobby photographer and his site displays his photos. Nothing is for sale, yet he has been accused of stealing advertising space by a forum member. This forum is not being moderated unfortunately so we cannot deal with the issue.
Now I cant get my head around this so would welcome any opinions.

TIA!

What association to the forum does the member objecting to the link have?

Because, as far as Im concerned its up to the website owner to dictate what is ok and what isnt, usually forum-rules-and-guidelines_topic1&FID=8&PR=3.html" rel="nofollow - by setting out some rules .

Posting a link in your signature isn't "stealing advertising space", especially if the site isn't being moderated - as theirs no one to contact regarding advertising, or anyone to object and remove it.

Also, if the person with the link is an established regular member of the forum in question then its perfectly reasonable for him to link to his own website. if hes just signed up and is spamming his link then thats obviously bad.

But from the sounds of it, it doesnt seem like much of a problem and I cant see why this other member is so against someone linking to their own site.

But as I said at the start, it would be up to the site owner to decide what is ok and what isnt, if s/he doesnt care, then theres not much that can be done really.

Your own posts dont count Im afraid.

Also, you may wish to read the forum-rules-and-guidelines_topic1&FID=8&PR=3.html" rel="nofollow - rules , specifically:

Hi,

Just having a look around the forums, can anyone help me with explaining the main purpose of these forums?

Thanks!

The main purpose of these forums (I suppose) is to:

1. Provide support and help to people who buy or use Web Wiz Products (which if you take the time you can http://www.webwiz.net/products/" rel="nofollow - review the products on offer)
2. To help with issues relating to any of the products and if such issues exist, to have answers given to people so they can solve their problems quickly
3. They also cover subjects such as ASP, HTML and databases
4. To keep people updated on hosting issues (those who have their sites hosted by Web Wiz)
5. Allow people to show off their web wiz applications
6. To have a means to understand and develop awareness of the products and meet other people too
